IF you live in or around New York’s Hudson Valley (or if you are willing to take a plane, a train, or the Queen Elizabeth II to get here), I hope you’ll stop by for one of my 2014 “Open Days.” Open Days benefit the amazing work of the Garden Conservancy. Here’s a sneak-peak at some of the gardens on the tour:
Open Day #1. Saturday, May 10, 10 AM – 4 PM.
Open Day #2. Saturday, August 16, 10 AM – 4 PM.
For tickets, contact the Garden Conservancy.
Here are just some of the gardens you will see:
The Rose Garden. Would you believe this formal, boxwood- and yew-framed garden was previously an asphalt parking lot? ‘Tis true. How I achieved the garden through blood, sweat, and tears.
The Herb Garden. This small, semi-formal garden is located behind the Music Room wing of the house. It’s a terrific place for sipping cocktails on warm summer evenings. The design details.
The Serpentine Garden. Have a steep hill on your property? Maybe you’d like to do what I did, and create a garden there.
The Kitchen Garden. The twelve raised beds in this garden serve as my “living supermarket.” The design details.
The Woodland Garden. My favorite place when the weather turns hot and humid. It is filled with Primulas, Polemonium caeruleum, Astilbe, and oodles and oodles of ferns. How I designed this shady retreat.
So…who’s going to attend one (or both!) of these events? I’d love to meet you.

Hi Kevin,
I would like to visit a number of the gardens in both NY and CT this year. The Garden Conservancy has not yet listed exactly which gardens and their specific locations are included, but I would very much like to visit your property and see it ‘live’. I’ve marked my calendar for the August date.
Chip Barkel says
Yes Yes Yes. When will tickets be available for purchase? I know it is a long way from Toronto, can’t wait to see your gardens.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Hi Tracy and Chip – Would be great to meet you! I think tickets will be available in early February.
Stephanie Werskey says
Hi everyone – just wanted to chime in and say that tickets (6 for $25 for non-members) are available for purchase now on our website (https://www.gardenconservancy.org/open-days-directory?pageshop.browse)!
So happy to have Kevin’s garden open again and hope you both make the trip. We are putting our Open Days Directory together now and will post each Open Day’s details in mid-March. If you have any questions, please call our toll-free number 888-842-2442 or email me directly.

I’d love to come! (it’s 4 degrees here in Montpelier, VT today). What will your garden be like in May?
John says
Kevin, you’ll have to provide a link for your garden, so I know WHERE to drive to. The link that Stephanie gives has so much in it, that I can’t find any information about your lovely gardens. I am indeed interested in coming, but coming WHERE is the question.

I will miss it BUT I know YOU will have a full garden of wandering people……..You have done a wonderful job!
BRAVO!

That is so beautiful that it almost makes me cry!
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Hi John – The Garden Conservancy will publish address/directions in mid-March. I’ll send out a reminder before the first tour.
Joan says
Hi Kevin – I live in Ontario Canada and would so love to walk around your garden, but I’m not sure I can get there.
Your wonderful e-mails always make me happy, even when it is soooo cold and dreary outside here, and I thank you for that.

Your work is beautiful! I cannot make it but would love to someday.
Brenda says
We look forward to returning to your garden this year; hopefully the rain will oblige the roses! Of course, your pix are fabulous, but seeing that herb garden outside your kitchen door is glorious. Oh, yes, and then there is the woods pathway that edges your yard which is so COOL on those blistering hot open days we had last year! 🙂 Can’t wait….already looking online for specific new plants….
Thanks for the gluten free recipes.

Oh WOW!
When I saw this my heart did a ‘pitter-patter’. I have a standard “Brunch Date” with your e-mail every Sunday morning. Nothing better on these Bitter Cold New England Days than a walk in your BEAUTIFUL gardens, while sipping a mimosa and munching on one of your delicious recipes.
I am legally blind and can not drive to “formally” meet you, however, I feel as though we have been friends for years ~
Congratulations Kevin. You make my heart sing.
Best,
Debbie

Hi Kevin, I visited on the Garden tour last summer and plan to again this year. Your gardens are so beautiful and peaceful to wander through and admire. Thank you for making them available to us. You’ve given me such good ideas to use on my own property–many thanks!
M Brown says
Hi Kevin
I would love to tour the gardens. Alas, I live in central Oklahoma so doubt if I get there.
I do have a question about the fence you have around your garden. Does it keep rabbits out?
I have another plan for the deer. How tall is it and how far between wires. Any information you can give me would be appreciated.
Thank you

A tour of your gardens would be so wonderful and so that is what I am planning to do. I just love your site and all the helpful information you provide. You are a true blessing for gardeners. Thank you for your sharing nature and loving heart.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
M Brown – If you click the link “Design Details” under the photo of my Kitchen Garden in the article above, you can read about the fence. The fence has kept deer, rabbits, woodchucks and you-name-it out of the garden!
Anne in Vermont says
Kevin, can you please at least tell us the name of the closest town so we can gauge how long a trip this would be?
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Hi Anne in Vermont – I’m in the town of Kinderhook, NY.
Paula says
Hi Kevin, I’d love to join you from Australia! One day I will… I’m looking forward to it too 🙂

How I wish I could. Maybe someday…..
