BOO! Last Saturday, more than 40 costumed guests walked through our front door. The occasion? Our annual Halloween Monster Bash! I was a colonial gentleman who, after makeup (thanks Michael Laudati!), morphed into…oh, I don’t know…maybe David Cassidy, circa 1971?
A few scenes from the party:
Barbara Bush Martha Washington (a/k/a Silver Fox)…
Picasso (Barry Brown) and his portrait (Dough Cohen)…
A pizza-eating rat (Neil Stevenson)…
Cruella DeVille (Loyita Woods)…
A private eye (Randall Schmidt) and Marie Antoinette (Lori Yorotsky)…
A confederate soldier (Tina Lang) and a union soldier (Stephen Lang)…
Who had a very important message!
Bill Clinton (Gary Spielmann) , who performed a skit with…
Gennifer Flowers (Wendy Powers Spielmann, seen here chatting with Picasso and his portrait).
Also on hand were friends Anne Schomaker, Robert Bluman, and David Deutsch…
Many more guests arrived after I put my camera away. So I’ll add more photos as they come in. The evening concluded in the music room, with performances by David and Vicki Smith, John Cooley, Stephen Lang, and…
Martha and me. I played piano and sang Bobby Pickett’s 1962 hit “The Monster Mash,” while guests (who are out of view, unfortunately!) sang back-up. I wish you could have heard the song, because we really rocked!
And what about your own Halloween night? Did you attend a party? Pass out candy to trick-or-treaters? Watch scary movies? I look forward to hearing from you!
Love ya –

Sat on front porch with family giving out candy. The kids are so precios to see. At our house kids take the candy and allowed 3 or 4 pieces. One toddler took one piece and when my daughter told him him could take more than that he got down on both knees to look over the options. A teenage couple were dressed as Minnie and Mickey. I said oh please sing the hot dog song…….he did. I said have extra chocolate for singing. 😉

Looks like so much fun! We had one group of trick- or- treaters (my cousin’s kids) and had our 1 year old grandson overnight.
Ann Manning says
Wow, looks like a fun crowd, and as always you certainly know how to get your par-ty started. Now what foods were served to your honored guest ? As always inquiring minds need pictures of the food table. 🙂
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Hi Ann – I forgot to take pictures of the food! Here’s the list:
Ginger London Broil on Brie Crostinis; Moroccan Chicken Satay; Scallion Sweet Potato Fritters; Tai Grilled Shrimp, plus assorted dips and a giant crudite platter. And lots and lots of spirits and wine!

Looks like a grand time was had by all!!! We had our 5 trick or treaters late afternoon. Geoff and I carved a lovely pumpkin…set it out by our hot tub and had a lovely soak under the moon and stars!! (And then gorged on leftover candy!!)

I love seeing your pictures. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I videoed at an awesome wedding, here in S.C., at the Forevermore Farm. It was held in an awesome barn venue. The theme was Bonnie & Clyde. So much fun!

This year’s costumes at your party look great. Love them.
We had rain all day on Halloween but there were still kids out there trick or treating with parents trailing behind with umbrellas. My kids chose scary costumes this year that they loved, so they would not be held back and were out there for quite awhile. Lucky for me my husband hit the streets and I got to sit on the covered front porch and hand out candy. We had less than our usual number , so lots of leftover candy to push off on coworkers.
Pam says
Love it! Boring here that night.

oooOOOoooh… Moroccan Chicken Satay… would love to see that recipe.
Was Martha suddenly inflated for the piano number? Perhaps there was a pump camoflauged under the skirt.
You all look very festive!

I went to our local historic theater where they offered a 3 course dinner and we watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I love your zest for life. What a great party and thanks for sharing. A good time was had by all!!!

We enjoyed little mermaids, dinosaurs, KISS, zombies – Pretty much neighborhood children and their parents waiting in the street with endless dogs which Sophie loved. I set a ‘boom box’ out under the shrubs with my eerie Halloween sounds – screeched owl, slamming doors, wind howling through the trees, cats screaming, werewolves howling and threatening to take over – the kids and adults love it and often come back a 2nd time. I have a collection of witches that I set and place around the front door and adults took pictures with their little ones – they each got 1 piece of candy from this health conscious witch – I turned off the porch light when the candy ran out and sat down with a nice hot cup of tea. Twas a wonderful evening also – oh I did have my black cape and purple witch hat on along with exaggerated makeup on as well. Now to plan Thanksgiving – your featured salad looks like a winner! Thank you, love the pictures – brings back wonderful memories.

Love seeing all the creative costumes! Looks like a great time was had by all! It was raining this year, so not too many kids. A group of us neighbors gather in one driveway/garage every year and party while the local children know to stop and walk away with a boat load of candy. The weather didn’t bother us adults, we went through almost four bottles of apple pie shots that I made! Delicious!

I went to a costume party where there were many excellent ideas. I was a scarecrow and my husband was an older version of David Hasselhoff from Bay Watch. Somehow he always ends up looking like Freddie Mercury to me! He could so pull that one off. I had fun dancing all night. I just wonder what a dancing scarecrow looks like!

We spent the day at Dollywood. Throughout the park little (and not so little) characterized people popped in and out of the groups of people. That day the sun shone warmly. The park displayed pumpkin people doing people things (painting, dog walking, playing leap frog…). Seven great gospel groups sang. There are bunches of rides for kids and the not so faint of heart. Oh and there were many spots to pick up a variety of fall foods. What a great Halloween day. And as far as trick or treaters at our place, there is only one so I gave her a goodie bag Friday. If you are ever in TN you may want to check out Dolly Parton park. It’s varied throughout the year. Christmas programs and decorations including 4 million lights-spectacular.

Rained most of the day in Chicago; but, was damp and not cold after dark. Wore my witches hat and makeup but not the rest of the costume, because I thought few would come. Had over 100 trick or treaters (about half of peak years). They and parents were very verbal about liking our decorations. Some kids scared, but nobody cried. Gave out fun sized chocolate, Marti Gras beads and two bushel baskets of stuffed toys. Yes, my sister-in-law lives in New Orleans and picked the items up along the parade route and sent them to us. The costumes were Cute and the kids well mannered.

It was a quiet night. Even though some kids moved in the neighborhood, the family was away for the weekend. What a shame there was no one to eat the fun size candy! I also enjoyed seeing pictures of my 3 year old pirate grandson and his 2 month old baby panda sister. A friend sent photos of his grandchildren..an enjoyable night thanks to email!! Oh, I also copied your pumpkin bread for my 3x5card recipe file! I trust its taste will surpass fun size Snickers!!

Kevin you make me want to get up the nerve to have a big party!!!! Thanks for ALL your inspiration. I love your blog and always look forward to seeing you in my inbox.
Hope all your holidays are joyful!

I ate frood at a fabulous Indian chef’s table but USUALLY I dress up horrible and crash the kids’ party in town: they love it. Last year, crawling into the front yard as a fully wrapped mummy totally freaked them out!

We sat outside enjoying hot chili, baked potatoes and a huge bon fire to keep the spirits at bay on the night when they are just there in the mist..
It was our friend’s birthday and too beautiful to be indoors.
Your parties are fabulous! We enjoyed in vicariously- What was the menu???

Enjoyed a wonderful evening at my daughter’s house where all my grandchildren and great grandchildren gathered to trick or treat. My daughter started the evening with a wonderful chicken pie she had made and my son in law served a delicious venison chili…yum yum. What a treat for me to see them all in their costumes! Enjoyed seeing all your costumed friends, looks like you all had a fun night.

Hi Kev,
I wish I could’ve seen and heard the Bill Clinton skit! What a riot your friends are! Sounds like my friends! I’m glad you had a good time.
No party for me this year…we’re building a house and we are almost done! So next year the PARTY is at our house! Forbestown, CA

Your Halloween party looks like tons of fun! I love seeing these posts every year.

Love seeing your Halloween Party Guests dressed up every year! We spent Halloween with two of our young granddaughters at the annual Halloween Parade in Cooperstown NY. Every year young trick-or-treaters visit many of the local stores in Cooperstown for safe trick-or-treating and then have a parade through the main section of the town. It’s wonderful to see all the children having so much fun and see them in their costumes. Some of the adults dress up to. And this year there were MANY dogs dressed up and walking in the parade too! Thanks for sharing your party!

Love your party! Thank you for sharing!! I stayed home. 🙁 An unexpected drop in blood pressure dictated that I monitor that. Oh well. lol!

Love your Halloween party photos.
Hope you recorded the Monster Mash. Memories are made of this.
Next year, consider David Bowie. You could totally be a hot DB.
Circa Ziggy Stardust era? or not. : )

We always paint our faces for the few Halloweeners we have, but they expect it! Prior to Halloween they ask if we’re going to scare them, but since they expect it, no one is very scared! Wish I could show you!

Looks like so much fun and nota vampire in the bunch. Very creative costumes. Thanks for letting us be your guests.

Looks like your friends are very creative judging by the costumes. Looks like a fun time had by all. I live in a seniors apartment complex & we had a quiet hallowe’en. Only about 9 trick or treaters so we partied anyway. Your menu sounds like a five star restaurant offering! Lucky people!
Judy Pennington says
LOL you guys just have too much fun!! I was going to tell you that Martha needed more tata’s, but I see by the picture of you both at the piano, the tata’s were evident. 🙂 The food sounds spectacular, the guests were lovely, you make a very cute David Cassidy by the way!! lol I spent the night sewing on my quilts with my black cat! We didn’t have one little goblin at the door?? I think the local churches were having parties for the kiddos. We’re a VERY small town.
Judy Pennington says
forgot to tell you, I think the Mad Hatter should have first prize!! great costume!

Your party was fantastic!!! What clever friends you have!
DH and I handed out goodies to 760+ treat to kiddies!
Yes you read right 760+! They block off the streets in our neighborhood
and they come from several towns around us.
We’re just a little town in Ok. 8,000 population!!!
What fun it is.

Looks like a jolly-good night indeed. Homeboy knows how to have good time!
Super photos!! Thank you for sharing!
Meryl says
You look more like David Bowie than David Cassidy. And I really thought Cruella was Joan Rivers at first glance. What a lovely party!
We went to friends and had some wonderful Mole and then took the kids trick or treating. It was a nice Halloween.
Betty-Anne says
We celebrated with a Halloween supper of Pork Roast, Root Vegetable Parmesan Tian, Mashed Potatoes, Apple Crisp and homemade Peanut Butter Cups for later.. The men tooke the kids out for trick or treating and the ladies stayed home with a glass of wine. We only had ten kids come to our door. Our punishment for having such wide frontage lots and making the trick or treators walk too far in between houses. But we had a great time with good food and wine of course.

I play bass in a band that my hubby and I have had for years (4 Hits & a Miss, believe it or not!! – Hubby Paul is a square-dance caller & our band does older country & square dance music, which is very popular here in BFE – er, SW Ohio). We all dressed up for a Halloween Dance, I was a Hippie because, yes, I am REALLY an old hippie!. Had a great time, as we always do!
Janet Metzger says
what marvelous costumes!
I passed out candy to the latecomers after I walked through the neighborhood enjoying the decorations.
Glad to see the photos!

Sheri says
It was a rainy, dark & windy night in the San Juan Islands and not a trick or treating child in sight! As usual!
Julie R says
Thanks for sharing the party pictures. All the great costumes were great and I’m sure your food was great too. Things were quiet at my house. Had planned on taking our dog our for a walk on Halloween night, but stayed home instead because it rained all evening. My kids were away, staying with friends for the weekend, which made it even more quiet. I ended up watching old scary movies and having popcorn.
