It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

IS THIS A JOKE? It’s not yet Halloween, but already an inch of heavy, wet snow has descended on my garden, forcing in-leaf trees and shrubs (like the Hamamelis “Witch Hazel” above) to bend dangerously to the ground. And guess what? More snow — 7-10 inches — is predicted for tonight. Who else is fearing they won’t get their autumn clean-up accomplished before…April?

We were out at 6:15 this morning doing our errands, so we could rush home and put stuff away for the season. My husband actually pulled out our boat and dock today…a lot of stuff got put away, geraniums that were still in full bloom got pulled – I grew them from seed and it was painful to toss them! It is now very dark at 1:10 p.m. and snowing rather heavily in Massachusetts. If this is a prelude to Winter, we are in a lot of trouble! French Onion Soup tonight for dinner ~ can't wait. Hope your party goes well~bet you have an awesome menu! Have fun…..

Eliza J – You were lucky to accomplish those chores. Here it is raining heavily — snow is coming later. Stay warm and happy — hope you enjoy the soup.

I wonder if we're heading for a monstrous winter, too. Albany is supposed to get hit tonight.

Some people saw flakes here a few days ago, but although I had to scrape frost from my car-I haven't seen it yet. It's cold though…and it's coming.

Eric – I'm thinking the same. Stay warm, okay?

    Katreader – Yep, we're back to scraping-frost-off-the-windshield-weather.

Wow! I haven't dug the rest of my potatoes and snow is falling outside, whoa. Much still to learn after my first New England veg season. Kevin, did you get the last of your spuds out of the ground yet? Thanks again for your potato tutorial; it is terrific! Stay warm, my friend..

Ugh, had to scrape my windshield this morning. Here's hoping that none of us lose power tonight! I hope there's SOME reprieve before real winter starts- I still have bulbs to plant!

Cary – Yes, I finally managed to get all of my spuds harvested. And just in time, too. Hope you manage to get yours out of the ground before a deep freeze hits. Some autumn, huh?

BBI – I'm with you on that reprieve. Maybe someone in the south could send us a heat-wave?
