Six years ago, I started this blog. And now, 904 posts, 124,024 comments and millions of page-views later, I have only two words to say: Thank you!
Thank you for keeping me company in the kitchen all these years. What a colossal collection of savories and sweets we’ve cooked together!
Thank you for getting your hands dirty as we worked in the Rose Garden, the Serpentine Garden, the Woodland Garden, the Herb and Kitchen Gardens. I couldn’t manage this place without you!
Thank you for holding my hand in a creepy 19th-century basement while the music room foundation was being repaired. Now that’s real proof of friendship!
And now that the basement cobwebs have been cleared, here’s my latest cookbook news:
Back in January, in a post called Status of My Cookbook, I told you that my manuscript was finished, but that I needed a publisher. One of the comments beneath that post came from literary agent Angela Miller. Angela represents some of the biggest names in food, including Mark Bittman, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Marcus Samuelsson. And guess what? She’s now representing moi!
Angela said that a neighbor of hers, whom I have never met, sent her to this site. Oh, the magic of the internet.
In case I don’t say it often enough…
I love all of you!

Stumbled on your marvelous blog over a year ago while googling something or other. That was my lucky day. Love your blog, love your sense of humor, your determination and your “realness.” Is that a word? Have been astounded at your willingness to take the time to answer questions as though you had nothing better to do. Will look forward to seeing the cookbook, and hope it will be followed up with a gardening book. “Live long and prosper.” ~~Spock

Very exciting news, Kevin. Tell us, is there an email address your…um….followers might avail ourselves of to alert any target publishing houses to our impatience at the opportunity to purchase your cookbook? I’m all for a little relentless consumer pressure!
Another Carolyn says
I can only add my thanks and appreciation to the others’. You’re the only man I’ve spent money on in years 🙂 OK, that sounds creepy, but because of you I’ve purchased a food processor, a tart pan, a bundt cake pan, and just the other day I bought whole wheat flour and buttermilk (Neither of which I ever thought would cross my threshold) so I could try your Whole Wheat Irish Soda Bread – which just came out of the oven. Oh, and in your honor I bought a $2 blue spoon with a cutout of a cat’s face. Not as fancy as your polka-dot spatula, but it’s a start, right?
Like everyone else, I can’t WAIT for your cookbook.
Congratulations on your blogivesary – may there be many, many more.

Wow Kevin, so excited for you and your good news. Can’t wait to buy a cookbook when it is published and ready for sales. You have shared so much with all of us so THANK YOU for being there, holding our hands through new recipes and how to garden articles. I just checked my winter sowed jugs today and opened them as the weather is nice today here in Indiana and some of them are already peeking their heads through the soil. The only problem…. I wrote on the outside container what was inside and I guess the sun and winter wore all the names off. Tsk, tsk, so now I will have to play, “Let’s guess what this plant will grow up to be” ! It will be worth it but will have to find a better way to mark them next year.
Congratulations on the progress of your book. Can we, your groupies get autographed copies when it is published?
Jean

Hi! Congratulations on your book. I am so happy for you. I have absolutely loved following your blog for the past several years and I just want you to know that I have never made a recipe of yours that didn’t turn out FABULOUS!
My 2 favorite recipes (it was really hard to choose):
Tomato Pie (made ONLY with my home-grown heirloom tomatoes–starting in August).
Blueberry Bars (my go-to recipe every time I volunteer a dish for brunch)
I also want to say that I really like the photo of you in your kitchen where you are smiling! You have a great smile. I think you should zoom in on that pic and make it your profile pic for your blog!
I live in NE Illinois (zone 5b). It’s snowing right now.
