Yeah! I'm first!
Now, about a gift. What about waterproof, knee-high boots for wading-I mean working-in the muddy springtime garden?
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Eric – great idea!
Samantha says
Yeah, I'm second! I would not shun garden gloves, were I to receive them as a present. I'm always losing mine, and can never have too many. I also like Eric's boot-idea.
Yolanda says
My only issue with a gift certificate is that the recipient knows exactly how much you spent on him or her!
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Samantha – I know what you mean about gloves. I'm always losing them, too!
Yolanda – no matter what dollar amount a gift certificate is worth, I think it's always appreciated!
Judy says
The store PYLONES carries whimsical gardening tools! Check out their website and click on 'outdoors!
Justin says
I think a gift certificate for a garden center makes a great gift. My mom sent me one for Wayside Gardens last year. I used it to buy three azaleas.
GothamDan says
Where can I get long, heavy duty waterproof gloves to dismantle my beaver dam?
Eric says
For GothamDan: You want the same kind of gloves that plumbers use. Most hardware stores sell them. Good luck with your beavers.
James says
Here's my idea for an inexpensive gardening gift: arrange in an attractive basket several packets of vegetable and flower seeds, a pair of garden gloves, and a trowel. Very easy to make, and a nice forecast of spring!
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
James – Love your gift-basket idea!
Oscar says
What about bird feeders?
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Oscar – welcome. I think you are right – bird feeders would be appreciated by lots of gardeners, including this one!
Cheryl says
They would also be appreciated by birds!!!
Gregory says
For the gardener who gardens exclusively indoors (i.e., most of us in NYC), a gift certificate for Logees Greenhouses would be welcome! Also, unusual plants, or new varieties of old favorites. I'm not big on philodendron vines, but I just saw one that is fantastically variegated…
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Cheryl – of course! How could I forget the birds?
Gregory – I love Logees! And, I've seen at the florist's the philodendron you are referring to. It is truly spectacular, and I must find room for it in my (very crowded) window garden.
Leslie says
A terrarium?
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Leslie – a terrarium, yes! Think I'll put this on my “wish list” too!
Kathleen says
SO many great ideas here! Here's another — Years ago, my husband gave me the coolest stocking stuffers — flower bulbs! Some to force indoors, others to plant outdoors. Such fun, and more addictive than Chocolate! Check out EasytoGrowBulbs.com for a great selection.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Kathleen – bulbs as stocking stuffers? Wish I'd thought of that! And, great idea to include bulbs that can be enjoyed in the house now, and others for later pleasure when spring or summer arrives.
Come visit us often!
Eric says
Hey, I looked at Kathleen's website. What beautiful selections! Very easy to go Christmas shopping there!
Donna says
For bare-root heirloom roses, there's http://www.pickeringnurseries.com. You can order now, and they will ship when it's the proper planting time in your zone. I've ordered from them before – they are reliable.
Grace says
A gift certificate to a garden center. Definitely.
Sally says
A book on trees. Anyone have a title to suggest?
Violetqueen says
How about a gift subscription to African Violet Magazine!!!
