Super-DuperTart Pan Giveaway/Winners Announced

BY Kevin Lee Jacobs | June 13, 2014 611 Comments

Last updated on November 26th, 2015

DRUM ROLL, PLEASE! The winners of the tart pan are: Lorna (#15), Jennifer H (#485), and Sharon C (#84). To collect your prize, just send me a note.

TODAY, because it’s raining outside…because Lily the Beagle is napping…and because I cherish everyone who reads this website…I’m giving away three super-duper tart pans!

A tart pan has a fluted rim that gives a crust a professional-looking edge…

And a removable base that permits the easy unmolding of the tart.

With such a pan in your kitchen-arsenal, you can make this Persian Lime Pie…

And this Lemon Ice Cream Tart with a Gingersnap Crust…

And this lovely lemon tart, which happens to be The Best (and the Easiest) Lemon Tart in the World…

And this screamingly-delicious Glazed Strawberry Tart.

The tart pans I’ve purchased for giveaway are 9 inches in diameter. That’s the ideal size for most dessert tarts, including those pictured above.

Now, to enter this giveaway, just scroll down to bottom of this post, and leave a comment in the “comments” section.Β  Mention anything you’d like. Perhaps you’d like to tell me whether or not you make your own pastry dough. I certainly do.

Rules for Entry

One comment per person, please.

Be sure to write your comment in the “Comments” section located at the end of this post.

Enter soon! This drawing expires on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 11:59PM EST.

Three winners will be chosen at random (I’ll use the number device at Random.org).

Winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 18, so be sure to check back!

Not required but definitely appreciated: Click the “Like” button below.

Good luck, everyone!

I was called a “tart” many (MANY!) years ago but I’ve never made one. I’ve drooled over all the tarts you’ve shown us in the past few years, especially that lemon one. Since I don’t have a tart pan in my cooking arsenal, I think it’s time to get one, one way or another. Hmmmm. Chocolate? Lemon? Persian Lime?

I used your Joan Crawford method for a trellis for my green beans. Hopefully it will work better than the teepee method which grows so thick that you can find the green beans to harvest them. So far so good, the beans are winding their way to the top and will have some where to go when they get to the top. I am beginning to pick snow peas and have a bit of spinach and swiss chard now. Would love to win one of the tart pans — I have one *without* a removable bottom and it’s borderline useless since you can’t get the dang thing out of the pan. I’d always relied on that refrigerated pie dough until we lived in Costa RIca and it didn’t exist. For a year or two we would actually smuggle a few in when we went to the states, but eventually [a] we stopped going back to the states for several years and [b] I decided this was ridiculous, surely I could learn to make a pie crust! It was easy to get real lard there, which makes wonderful crust. Now that we live in the states again I’ve resorted to the refrigerated kind once or twice, but still usually make my own. Your tart recipes look great!

Love to make my own crusts and one of the best gifts my husband ever gave me “just because” was an 2×3′ piece of marble he got on a job site. He thought it would be good to keep in the freezer a kid have a cold surface to rollnout pastry on. I think the “just because” was because he likes pastry.

Both my mother and dad made delicious pie crust so growing up I never made it. As a young bride, I decided to make my husband a cherry pie. When I rolled out the dough I thought the recipe made a mistake because it seemed too thin so I doubled it. Big mistake. Those poor little cherries were smushed into a thin line in the middle of all that dough. Being a loving husband, he ate a huge piece claiming it awesome. Unfortunately he drank a large glass of milk (trying to choke it down) When all that dough and milk combined in his stomach, the dough expanded and he ended up with a big tummy ache. We laughed about that for years. Maybe if I had a tart pan I would improve my pie crust skills. Thanks Kevin. Look forward to your posts each week.

Oh yes, I make my own dough. I made two blackberry cobblers this weekend from scratch using a pie dough. The cobbler recipe I love to use is in several cookbooks by the late Lee Bailey (1983 β€œCounty Weekends”, 1986 β€œCountry Desserts”, & 1996 β€œThe Way I Cook). It uses both shortening and butter in the flour. I like dough recipes that don’t take any fancy handling, like Lee Bailey’s rustic cobblers and tart desserts. For a long time I’ve been wanting a nice removable bottom pan so I can show off nice tart crust edges.

Oh oh – I bought an 11 inch tart pan at Bed, Bath and Beyond! Now I really need a 9 incher to make one – or all – of your tarts for my friends who gather every 2 weeks for fellowship. Your website is great – can’t wait to see the roses later this summer. Visited a beautiful rose garden today in northern Westchester County, but hope to see yours soon. My thing is roses! The more the merrier for sure. We had a very tough winter and I lost a few roses from my Secret Garden but many are thriving! Have a great summer and don’t forget to write the blog!

Love reading all the site material. I am being VERY successful following your instructions to root african violets from a leaf. I put 4 in my bowl, covered with water, and put saran wrap propped up by kebab sticks to make the correct environment. Now three have babies and watching the fourth for birth any day. Waiting for them to grow enough to transfer to their individual pots. This is a blessing to be able to share their grandmothers’ violet with family members. We lost her last year but through this plant we can still share a piece of her. Thanks!!

Hi Kevin! I’ve been wanting to thank you for the asparagus tart recipe! I have a good story for you about it. I got married in May and had several family members coming from out of state for the celebration. While I kept insisting I wanted a simple event, one which I could enjoy without too much stress, naturally that was easier said than done. After struggling to get a seating chart done and meal choices to the chef, I got a call from my NY cousin the week before the wedding asking if we were having a gift opening the next day, or a brunch so out of town family could gather before flying home. Although my fiancΓ© suggested I say “no,” I decided we’d host brunch at our house in Sunday. Yeah, I know….the morning after our wedding. I said the only way I’d host is if someone would help warm stuff up that morning. The week prior, I made three of the asparagus tarts and froze them, and all we had to do was warm them up the morning of brunch. My family is a tough audience but they devoured them! I had to make these one at a time because I only have one tart pan. After baking and allowing to cool, I transferred them gently to a regular pie pan and froze that way. A second tart pan would have come in handy! But I truly wanted to thank you for a recipe that helped me start married life able to relax on a busy day while looking like a skilled cook at the same time. πŸ™‚ Nobody could believe I had whipped these up myself! I paired them with a fantastic cheesy potato casserole, bacon, bagels and plenty of champagne.

He was enchanted by them. So for Father’s Day we were with both of our boys and their families and my husband insisted upon another batch of the cookies. They are beautiful, elegant and soooo tasty. Some of the family cautiously tried them out and tried to refrain from quickly picking up another one. Everyone enjoyed them and so did I. With my second time I learned to simmer the lemon slices at a very slow simmer so the beautiful pattern of the internal fibers remained intact. Thanks for sharing it.

I get a great deal out of your web site. I’m on the Virginia end of the Eastern Shore (between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay). Used your Leek planting scheme and it worked great. Leeks now 12″+-. I.ll send you a pic later. I have 5 raised beds (5’X8′ ea) with newly installed drip irrigation with valves at each bed. Working great. Saves a lot of time watering. Peach and Plum trees getting ready to supply fruit for tarts.

I borrowed a tart pan to make the asparagus wheel savory tart…but I would love to have my own.

Oh, and I found I had leek moths (in my garlic) and had just clipped out all my garlic scapes (and managed to save quite a few, with some careful pruning) JUST before you posted the garlic scape pesto recipe (which has nothing to do with tart pans, I know), so I made my first scape pesto – THANK YOU so much…it was lovely!

I really enjoy the recipes and everything else on your blog!

I have never made tart before, but have made fruit pizza for the children. Now they are grown, wouldn’t making them a tart instead be more elegant? I think so. Thank you for this opportunity!

LOVE your website. I ussed your newspaper mulching instructions last year and I think it was the best tip I ever used- no weeds for the whole summer and still no weeds in sight as of today! So thank you, Kevin, for saving us a lot of back breaking weed pulling! Now I think I am going to try my hand at one of those yummy looking tarts, whether or not I win the tart pans .

Hi Kevin You would be amazed at my lovely geraniums that are a result of your prune the geraniums in the fall and plant the tops. I have a full bed of geraniums in front of my home – something that I have longed for for years. Thanks so much for all your good information.

    I think those look beautiful.
I have a Duncan Hines Secret Tiara dessert tin. I am making my first fruit tart this week but don’t want the heaviness of the sponge cake. I am going to try dough in this pan. Hope it works.
You know those pans seemed like a good idea at the time, too bad they didn’t continue to support them, but I’m lucky enough to have one.
