14-Cup Food Processor Giveaway/Winner Announced

This week, because Monday (December 7) is my birthday…because Christmas is around the corner…and because you might like a nifty new kitchen gadget…I’m giving away a silver-and-red 14-cup food processor!

cuisinart 14 cup silver red 2My spouse ordered this same Cuisinart for my birthday, but in the usual shade of silver (cuz I didn’t know about the pretty red model at the time). Alas, the machine won’t arrive until Tuesday. Thus I lifted the photo up top from Amazon’s website. (I always use Amazon when ordering gifts for the random drawings on this site.)

And speaking of birthdays…I’ve decided to ignore my actual age, and turn just 30 on Monday. This is not an act of vanity, my friends.  It’s merely a psychological trick I learned from the wonderful actress Marla Gibbs. Marla, who is now in her 80s, tells herself that she is 30. Otherwise, she says, she might “give-in” to old age, and stop learning new things. I like her philosophy!

    Happy Early Birthday!!! I love your FB page and webpage. Many of your recipes appear on my table. I made the Harvest Salad for Thanksgiving. I have a three year old grand daughter who refused all Thanksgiving food EXCEPT the pumpkin bread croutons!! She ate them by the bowlful.     Happy Birthday, yes, it is true about learning new things. I have seen family members in their 80’s super young and others who give up way before. My mom had a December birthday too. Are you like her? She said growing up people lumped her presents (Christmas & birthday) into one gift. Heaven forbid we did that. She used to say, “Don’t give me my birthday present and tell me it’s Christmas too, and don’t give me my Christmas present and tell me it’s my birthday too. And whatever you do…no birthday wrap for my Christmas present and no Christmas wrap for my birthday. She WAS the Queen so we always did as she said. Sadly, she left us nearly four years ago and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t remember her in some way.

    Happy birthday, Kevin! As far has Matha Gibb’s “I’m 30” philosophy- she has a good point. Others might say to embrace the age you are in, but because our society is so youth-focused, I think it would be difficult to turn off that societal way of thinking to embrace the older years. So maybe it is best to fake it until you make it, until you start to believe you’re 30 again.

    I’m 66 but most of the time I don’t feel that old. But if I look in the mirror too closely, I get a wake-up call. My husband and I are fairly active, playing senior volleyball 3 times a week and bowling twice a week and I try to walk about 5,000 steps a day, sometimes more.     I’m immersed in homework, juggling baking, trying to organize my winter sowing (fortunately I have the containers!). I tried to order some peat moss and perlite from Amazon (my go to store) but they do not ship North at this time. So now I’m going to have to take a break tomorrow and go in town shopping. And in case you’re reading this; A friend and I are presenting a make-it/take-it workshop using your winter sowing idea for our Waterford Garden Club Feb. meeting. We hope it will provide many plants to sell at our annual fund-raiser in May. Thanks to your brilliant ideas we might be saving ourselves hours of backbreaking digging, potting, hauling, & clean up, though most of our sale will probably still involve traditional hard work. I noticed one recipe that called for a Bay leaf and you mentioned Schilling spices. I have a Bay tree in a pot. You should get one if you don’t have one. It is about 18″ tall after one season. I bury the pot in my raised garden for the summer months, and bring it indoor for the winter. I will send you a photo the next time I am at our farm.

    Happy Birthday Kevin. I hope the celebration for the day of your birth is extra special no matter which number it is. You can celebrate any number you want. Personally, when people ask my age I just tell them I am not 50. I am then telling the truth as I was 50 a few years back. People just assume I am under 50 so that suits me fine. After all what does it matter the number of years as long as we live each one to the fullest.

I was watching an episode of those old ladies that live together in Florida….what is the name of the series???? In any event, I ‘spotted’ my 1970s food processor on their counter….I thought it was a hoot. I didn’t use it for many years but since reading your blog, I have dragged it out and I am using it again. It did work pretty well when I made the Cranberry Tart pastry, but it is a bit chipped up.
