WHO’S IN CHARGE OF THE WEATHER AROUND HERE? Well, certainly not me. After a weekend of warm temps and torrential rain, I could finally glimpse the brown, grass-like substance I call a lawn. What a relief it was to see another color besides white! But guess what occurred while I tried — in vain — to sleep last night?
A violent ice-, snow- and wind-storm.
Yes, from midnight until 5:30 AM (when I climbed out of bed), I listened to the SNAP! CRACK! POP! of limbs breaking off of trees. Of course the power went out, too. So no heat, no hot water, and — worst of all — no internet until 2:30 this afternoon.
Now, for me, no internet means no work. I lit a fire in the parlor, picked up Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, and read about 100 pages. (Whoever said this book is a page-turner wasn’t exaggerating.) Then I remembered the no-knead bread I’d prepped the day before. I brought it from cold kitchen to warm parlor and let it rise between towels set near the fire. Had the power not returned when it did, I would have baked the loaf over embers in my Dutch oven. Next storm, maybe.
Anyway, what’s happening your neck of the woods? Is the firm hand of winter still upon your garden — or are your spring bulbs already popping up? (If you really want to make me jealous, just tell me your crocuses are in bloom.)

It's pretty bad here too. But at least my power didn't go out! Hopefully warm weather nexgt week. Nothing growing in Albany.

We had the rain and the disappearance of snow. Then I woke up and all was white again. Thankfully no ice storm-just more snow-about 4 inches.

Oh, I have a Caribbean Salsa candle burning as well as the fireplace. LOL.

Katreader – Well, now I'm intrigued! What's the scent of that Caribbean Salsa candle? Cilantro? Tequila? Sounds inviting…

We thankfully dodged the bullet with this storm. Normally those of us on the shores of Lake Ontario are the ones to get hit. I must say, I quite enjoyed seeing all that snow hit someone else for a change. I thoroughly enjoyed not having a snow day and not shoveling more snow! Now, let's get back on track to springtime.

Although Yankee Candles are my favorite-I do like those from the Bath and Body Shop too, like this one. According to their description Caribbean Salsa is “a luscious and juicy blend of sweet pineapple nectar, bright citrus, and succulent fresh peach is perfectly infused with exotic Yuzu flower and Tahitian vanilla to delight the senses”. All said and done-smells up the room in a great way!

Bonnie – And now comes the deep freeze: 12 degrees this morning…and Lily the Beagle wants a walk!
Katreader – Now I must investigate the Yuzu flower.
