[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEmIEEQOHpY&w=410&h=300]AFTER I POSTED ABOUT MONSANTO getting its evil mitts on our veggie gardens, reader Patty suggested I watch Food, Inc. Narrated by both Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and Michael Pollan (Omnivore’s Dilemma), this 2008 documentary takes a realistic (and frankly, horrific) look at where our supermarket foods come from. Watch part one above (additional parts follow). I see lots of room for improvement in our food system. How about you?

Kevin, I watched part one. What a wake up call. I'll watch the other parts tonight.

I like what the Stonybrook Farm guy says at the end of part six (I think it was part six). We vote with our dollars – and supermarkets listen.
So sad to the see the abuse of both animals and workers. That poor woman who can't take antibiotics anymore.

Horrifying. Factory farming, which isn't “farming” at all, has had a devastating effect on our economy, our environment and our health. E-coli didn't exist before factory farms and CAFOs. Our government endorses all of this, republicans and democrats alike. Disgusting. I do most of my shopping at a food co-op. It's expensive, but so is getting sick from eating the CRAP that supermarkets sell.

Eric, Adele, Sheila – The film confirmed for me what I'd already read. The meat in supermarkets comes from abused animals. The cereals, breads, and vegetable oils (esp. corn and canola) come from GM crops (which, I have no doubt, were saturated with Round-Up).
These days, I buy only pasta and paper products from the supermarket. The rest of my food comes my own garden (I freeze almost everything). I buy only humanely-raised beef and chicken from a local farm store. Because that meat is rightfully expensive, I eat it only once each week. The same farm store offers a wide range of local eggs, which are not expensive at all.

Kevin, I think you're right. Those vegetable oils probably come from (Monsanto-owned) GM Roundup Ready corn, oil, soybeans. I wonder if any tests have been done on Wesson veg oil to determine its herbicide content?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your insights and knowledge that is bringing news to so many about our gardens and food supply.
We are also keeping a watchful eye on what happens now to our dairy. The long term effects on this nation and others will become apparent soon. The next five years will be very different from the world my late father spoke of growing up on the Amish Colony in the 1930's.
This is a tragedy that one corporation's money and the law have been able to shift gears from the court's theatrical circus, into a very real fight for our health, for our lives! Food is the most intimate thing our bodies need to survive. What we ingest will eventually show up, whether it is good or bad.
A fear for the future generation has to become explainable. But to many people don't know and or do not believe it for whatever reason. Keep up your work Kevin and thanks again,
Best Regards,
Eldon Kohler

Eldon – thank you for taking the time to write. Like you, I am deeply concerned about Monsanto's Roundup Ready alfalfa, and the effect it will have on dairy. The FDA and also the USDA have no interest in stopping this travesty. Consequently it is my hope that consumers will vote with their dollars, and boycott all Monsanto products and by-products.
Again, thanks for writing. Please stay in touch.

Well we grow our own meat or buy it from neighbor farmers .
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
samf36 – That's good for you, your neighbor, and the environment. What meat are you raising?
