I LOVE MY 7-CUP FOOD PROCESSOR so much that I purchased (yet another) one to give away. Who’d like to win this indispensable kitchen gadget in a random drawing?Up for grabs is a brand new Cuisinart DLC-10S Pro Classic 7-Cup Food Processor. This model is much nicer than my 10-year-old (and now-discontinued) Cuisinart.
I use my food processor to achieve hundreds of delicious dishes in a fraction of the usual time. For instance:
French Onion Soup (Soupe à l’oignon gratinée). In a matter of seconds, the food processor will thinly-slice the big onions you need for this fabulous, French, slightly-boozy brew. Here’s the recipe.
Chive Pesto. Toss chives, almonds, garlic and oil into the processor, and WHAM! — you’ll have a pesto that’s so delicious you’ll probably faint. The recipe.
Mayonnaise. Give eggs, olive oil and lemon juice a spin, and 3 minutes later you’ll enjoy mayo as it was originally meant to be — creamy, dreamy…and real! Details here.
I dump butter, flour, and a bit of ice-water into the processor, and ten seconds later, I’m presented with Pate Brisee — the tenderest, flakiest pie crust in the world. The recipe.
English Cream Scones. Sure, you could mix these up by hand. But why should you? The food processor will accomplish the job before you can say “English Cream Scones.” My easy recipe.
Garlic Scape Pesto. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried this heavenly stuff. And the processor will turn it out for you in less than one minute. The recipe.
Use the processor to turn fresh or frozen strawberries into a thick puree… fold the puree into beaten egg whites… and voila! you’ve got the goods for my fail-proof Strawberry Souffle.

I’m not too up on Bette Davis, but “I’m Gonna Get You, Sucka” starring Kenan Ivory Wayans should be seen at least once. And if you can’t come across that, a viewing of Monty Python’s “The Holy Grail” will tickle your funny bone… I just listed two of my favorite movies. Now, I’m going to spend some time in my garden and hope for an email telling me I’ve won a ridiculously large Cuisinart.

Larry Doyle says
First time watching Bette Davis was in one of Disney’s Witch Mountain movies. Would be fun to watch Ms Davis while whirring some food in the processor.
Sharon Weldon Sabbatino says
I love to cook from scratch with real food. Owning a food processor like this would be a dream come true and would surely make my life in the kitchen, where I now do things mostly “old school,” a whole lot easier. By the way Bette Davis was always a icon in our home when I was growing up. She came from Lowell, MA, as did my parents, and she and my mother looked enough alike to be cousins if not sisters!
Cary says
Garlic scapes in the fridge, calling for Kevin’s garlic scape pesto! Thanks for the reminder of my favorite pesto!
Ann Brunton says
I would love a replacement for my old cuisinart….the plastic bowl is getting badly stained…had a bumper crop of winter luxury pumpkins last year, that I buzzed into soups and pies! Here in Ontario the garlic scapes are a least a week away, but will try your recipe for scape pesto for sure!
Darlene says
Love your website and facebook page! So many great tips, tricks and lessons. Our food processor is so old it was laboring shredding carrots this morning for a homemade carrot cake. I promise to send you updates and pictures of dishes I make if I win it!
Sue Sifakis says
a food processor sure would make me happy, tried making the chives pesto in my little bullet, just wasnt the same !
andrea says
I can do you one better. My Cuisinart came from my grandmother’s house. she died in 1990. It still works, but the handle of the bowl is broken, and the attachments go on in the strangest way. The design must be safer now. I haven’t replaced it because I’ve gotten very good with a knife and I recently got a fantastic new 4 sided grater. But a new Cuisinart might inspire some more adventurous cooking.
Susie says
I love your website and I get absolutely nothing done once I open up your page – you are
outrageously entertaining! Love you, keep up the good work!
MoLiver4u says
I agree, food processors are a must have for any serious cook…but I will always mix my cream scones by hand…it just feels right;)

I have a 13 year old Cuisinart named Schnookems… I have broken the bowl and replaced it and I just broke the lid, but it still works and I love it.. I would LOVE another one! Oh, and my favorite Bette Davis movie is Now Voyager:)
Derek says
Sigh. I would do so much with a food processor. We would go kayaking by the light of a full moon and then watch the sunrise after being awake all night long talking about…stuff. We would dance together in the rain and slip and slide on the moss green grass filled with geckos . I would take my food processor on a date to the Olde Tyme Soda Fountaine and share an egg creme with two straws and one glass. Oh the things we would do…
Cheryl R says
Would love to have this to make my next pan of scones! Love your gardens!
Jennifer Lawver says

Deborah says
Hi Kevin ~ I’m new to your page…and I love it! So much useful information ~ thank you. And what a generous way to be introduced to your site. It just so happens that a processor is the one appliance I have been researching as I am in desperate need of one. My husband & I have been changing our diet over to a healthier one and alot of the veggies need a processor, which I now do by hand. It would be much very apprecitated if we could win this awesome processor, but if we don’t…I will still love your page! 🙂

I have cut myself on the blade several times.
Thanks~

I’ve always just had the small Cuisinart food processor, but looking at your recipes and thinking about all of the things I might do with a larger one makes it so tempting — though I’ve always been a little intimidated by all of the attachments and such that come with the bigger ones. But if I don’t happen to win this one, I’ll probably have to give in and buy one now, after looking at all of those pictures!

Getting ready to make another batch of your chives pesto. Will cut chives while I’m weeding. Also love the recipes with this give away. Here’s one from me – soak for several hours covered a cup of pitted dates and soak a cup of raw unsalted cashews separately. Drain both containers but reserve the date water. First process the dates with some of the water, then add the soaked cashews. Add tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 cup of organic cacao powder. Can add other nutritious stuff like tsp of ground flax seed, tsp of ground sesame seed, 1/2 cup of ground hemp seed. Experiment. Stir with spoon first to start the blend of the dry into the wet ingredients. Add sweetener like agave syrup to taste. Blend till smooth. Yum

I love McClintock – have seen it at least 30 times. They just don’t make them like that any more.
I do love Cuisinart so this would make a great addition and a new cooking toy would be great for my husband who loves toys in the kitchen and the garage.
I loved your onion soup – didn’t have the vermouth but it was awesome without it; rich broth was just yummy.

I have a LOT of fennel growing in my garden in South Carolina. Love to use fennel seeds (and a pinch of nutmeg) in turkey meatloaf. Your spinach, fennel and white bean gratin sounds yummy. Have never had a food processor. Received a Kitchenaid mixer as a wedding present from my parents so that gets used for everything. Cutting up onions and fennel bulb in a food processor look much easier!
Elizabeth Fox says

Debbie says
I would love to have a processor to try some of these homemade recipes
Maggie says
My favorite Bette Davis movie is also, All About Eve. My favorite Joan Crawford movie is, Mommie Dearest. In real life, though, I am frightened, ever since I was a child, by women wearing black, pointed toe, stiletto heels. Those shoes and red lipstick to boot . . . yikes! It’s about as friendly as a police or nazi uniform. They did, however, back then, know how to wear aprons – with pearls, of course!
Deborah Rosen says
I rarely use my food processor – it’s huge, clunky, probably older than you are and lives in the back of one of my bottom cabinets, so it’s just too much trouble to haul out – by the time I can get to it, I could have already sliced and diced everything. But this processor is sweet and compact and could live on my counter and work almost every day! Imagine how much time that would free up for other things, like gardening and trying new recipes and reading your blog. Thanks for the chance.
Nancy Putnam says
So excited about my “winter garden” flowers! Will definitely need more milk jugs next winter!!

I so enjoy your blog. I would love to be chosen to win this amazing piece of equipment. I have a food processor that is going on its last legs, received as a gift in early 1980’s. Money is tight around this house, as are most households, I believe. Can’t think of a movie title, but a song , can’t remember that title, but contains the words “like Betty Davis eyes”. I’ll think of it later but that’s all for now. Hope you have a great day!

She was the only Lady Lifeguard on the beach that summer Way Back When.
Michelle Snow says
I live in an area called “Columbia Forest,” so I love looking at pictures of your woodland grove and picking out all the same plants I have in my garden (and getting some new ideas). But in the one small area of my yard (about 5’x10′) that gets sun, I’ve planted an herb garden and am enjoying trying all the variations of herb pestos I can. So far my favorite (outside of traditional basil) is oregeno hazelnut. Today I’m going to try your chive pesto. I don’t actually have a food processor, I have to make pesto in the blender. It works until it is time to clean out the pitcher, I lose a lot of pesto near the blade area, I can never seem to get it scraped out without leaving some lovely pesto in the bottom.
Love the blog, thanks for sharing all that you do.
Jo Ann Spaulding says
Your blog is great. I have tried several of your recipes and advice on gardening. Even have forwarded them to my daughters. I truly enjoy cooking and gardening and have several Men who seem to always call me for advice. My husband passed away about 8 months ago, way too young, but anyway it has slowed down my cooking, but I still enjoy New recipes to prepare. I guess food expresses my Love for people, as I want them to enjoy my dishes. Beautiful day here in Montana for a sad Father’s day without him. Love to All.
Judi H. says

I’ll give it a shot! I got my Cuisinart in 1996!! A few cracks and a lid you have to hold down to operate ;9) Anyone that likes Hummus needs to make it at home, no funky ingredients, taste better and the Cuisinart makes fast work of it.

My first experience with a food processor was the one that my Dear Aunt Shirley brought home from Marshall Field in Chicago over thirty years ago. We lived out in the country near Sidney Illinois and she took the train to Chicago to buy a Foley Mill to use for canning. Were we surprised when she came back with this new fangled “Food Processor”. We jokingly referred to it forever after as “Shirley’s Foley Mill.” If I win this one it too will be re-christened in her honor.

Oh please pick me, I would love to have a food processor. I look forward to strolling through your gardens every week (with a glass of wine in hand, of course)! This year for the very first time I tried winter sowing, I will definitely do it again… only next year I’ll start a tad bit sooner (I didn’t start sowing seeds until mid March… yikes, kind of late). I live in eastern Nebraska, zone 5a but that doesn’t stop me from trying plants that aren’t supposed to winter over here. Sometimes they thrive sometimes not so much …at any rate it never hurts to try.

I love it Even though I am now 62 and my parents have gone to heaven, I still do the daily 2. Thanks for your help in keeping the tradition! Eli Mackewich, Albany, Ky

My partner’s boss is retiring in June, and she asked for recipes from staff, so I am submitting your Spinach/Swiss Chard Fennel Gratin casserole. It looks and sounds delicious.
I live in Toronto, but would love to come visit your beautiful house ( and you, of course!).

I LOVE to cook. I have an old Cuisenart of my mother’s that I carried home from California to Maryland when she died. My own had burned up when my house caught on fire. Mom’s old one works but not well and I’ve been wanting a new one for it seems like 20 years. I’d LOVE to have one of yours! I used to make hummous in a blender and was delighted when I discovered that a food processor could do it so much more easily. Don’t bother trying it in a blender – SO much work!

Bette Davis movie? For me, it has to be “The Little Foxes” hands down! Nobody could have played a greedy, manipulative, conniving “bee-yotch” quite like her!
Now, as for the Cuisinart, I most certainly could use a new one. The one I have is from the 80s and I am missing the very sharp blade and have no clue as to how to find a replacement!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed…
Lisa G says

My old olive green osrterizer blender has been asked repeatedly to do things a blender is not made to do – like making pesto. I have pushed it to its limits too many times and the bearings now leak black grease out the bottom. It’s time for a new gadget!
S. Taylor says
Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte…….oh that movie use to scare the dickens out of me. I have been so enjoying the swiss chard I planted in my little cold frame this past winter. It is producing some amazing leaves and we are eating it fresh like a salad or on sandwiches or sautéed with a little olive oil and garlic. That stuff is SOOO tasty.
Dale says
Maybe I’d actually use a SEVEN cup food processor, because the one that came with my blender is so tiny most recipes don’t fit into it.
Fingers crossed.
Is it OK to drink the rest of the cheap beer I put out to catch slugs?? 🙂

I want to thank you for that…. and, I can assure you that when family comes to visit, they are equally thankful when I prepare one or more of your wonderul delights. Last week end, made mint, chives, and almond pesto, spread in on store bought (because I do not have a Crusinaret) crousssants. Everyone demanded the recipe and most (there was 20 of us) brought home pots of mint and chives. How great is that? All thanks to you.

I love growing vegetables and the challenge that each garden season brings. My garden has helped me so much with my personal challenge with arthritis. The joy of being in the garden takes my mind to another place and off the pain. I have learned to use raised beds and to go vertical. I say that I am a straw gardener because I cover everything with straw to preserve water and discourage weeds. I learn new ways to do things that makes it easier for me through websites like yours. And then there are the wonderful recipes. A Cuisinart food processor would be just the help I could use in the kitchen to try your wonderful recipes. Thanks for sharing your garden.
Velvet says

My food processor broke over 3 years ago —- would love to have another one! Took me forever to make pesto with my blender!!!
Kip Morrissette says
This Food Processor would be awesome to own! It would sit proudly on my counter so it’d be easily accessable which means it would get used and not stored. Looks like I will be #904 so let’s hope it is a lucky number. As for Bette Davis, to tell the truth, the only BD movie I ever saw was Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and it sorta scared me so I’ll go along with your choice of All About Eve. I copy/paste your recipes and include each picture (copy image/paste) for easy directions into a Document. You turn your recipes into novels and I read every word, great sense of humor which I love.
Dana Hutchinson says
Well, I can honestly say, I don’t know of any movies with Betty Davis in them…

I, too, would love to have a food processor. I used to cook everything from scratch (when my kids were young and I was a stay-at-home mom)…bread, soups, casseroles…Now I work full-time, my husband doesn’t believe in vegetables, and time…(you know the story!) Recently, however, I am trying to turn that around and find healthy, home-cooked dishes that my husband will at least try. The Cuisinart would make cooking so much easier…
PS–Love your garden page

Kevin, I just signed up for your newsletter (I found your blog by accident) and I’m loving it already! My favorite Bette Davis performance was on TV, not a movie. She was in one of Alfred Hitchcock’s stories, one of the later ones, whose title escapes me at this time.

Colleen Walsh says
A couple weeks ago I was lamenting over the weeds in my garden, and as I was reading the emails I get, I found a relatively easy fix – with just newspaper and straw, which I have applied and I am praying it works. I just happened to have a ton of newspapers ready for the recycle bin and a couple bales of straw! Here’s to hoping I am as lucky with winning your food processor as I am at fixing my weeds! Thank you for the opportunity!
Donna says
Love your website and recipes!

I’d love to have a new one.

Marie says
All About Eve. We have a food processor, but since we’re still organizing our kitchen after moving into the old family home, and since it has a broken bit that needs to be fixed, it’s still in its moving box. A working food processor would be lovely.

All about Eve is my fav too. And no, not sucking up!
I don’t have a working processor at all, and there is so much I want to do with one. Hope the winner enjoys! Hope it’s me!
Marypat says
Well, now that I am comment 900+ the pressure is on to write a really clever comment.
Sadly, I am going to fail! Let me just say, that I do love Bette Davis — and her hair! (How did she get it to wave like that??) I remember watching “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane” with my siblings — too scary!!! Deliciously so.
I would also like to tell the world a horrid secret: my current “food processor” is a nightmare! It flings bits of whatever it is processing around the kitchen (you do not want to see it “process” bread for bread crumbs — or nuts, or pie crust…or…basically anything else!), and it sounds like a jet is taking off in the kitchen. I have considered wearing ear protection when using it.
Now, don’t you feel sorry for me?!!!!
Sharon says
Nice and very useful machine!

Love the blog, as usual, I read at work and then want to be at home nesting! I just bought a house after being an apartment dweller for 13 years… I am slowly starting a garden again (missed it a lot) and have been canning with the strawberries coming in season here (missed the canning too!). I feel like my old self again. 🙂 I realize what all I could do with the processor, I had to give mine up as the plastic was cracking around the blade, the thing was about 20 years old when I finally had to put it out of its misery. I can’t believe how many times I wish I still had it but right now cash is for settling into the house.
Shelley Alexander says

I really like to dream of a kitchen garden and now I can watch yours grow. I’m an indoor, air condition loving girl and can barely tolerate the Texas heat running to an air conditioned car, to go to an air conditioned store. So gardening will remain a dream. Thanks for sharing yours.

I’ve owned two Cuisinart FPs in about 40 years – they last a long time, but my current one is definitely growing old. I like them and use them so much that some years ago I went on ebay and found one offered for sale, just like mine, that needed repair. I was able to purchase it for almost nothing (the motor didn’t work) and asked the seller to toss the electric unit and just send me everything else. It’s been wonderful to have two blades, work bowls, hoppers, etc! If I win a new one, I’ll have to try to find another deal like that! Thanks for the chance, Kevin.

I used to live in Valatie some 30 years ago! I can’t remember the street name but the house we lived in had a nickname of The Sparrow House and the curved wooden stairway heading to the 2nd floor was taken from an old ship, probably named Sparrow. It was a very old house, not elegant like yours but oddly charming.

Kevin – you are like the boy next door, talented, witty, and best of all a great cook!
Love, love, love all your recipes, as well as all the great photos of the renovated house and wonderful gardens. And when you show your music room, I can just imagine I am hearing you play your wonderful grand piano. Mine was only a baby grand, but the tone was wonderful!
So now you are offering a new food processor, which again shows your talent in picking the cream of the crop of kitchen tools. I have a very dear friend who would love to have this tool for her kitchen, and if I win, I would surprise her with it. Thanks for all that you do for your readers. I enjoy every posting from you.

This processor would fit my kitchen space much better than the one I have. Looks wonderful! Love this weekly newsletter!
