ALL OF US — Lily the Beagle, cats Tiger and Camille, 160 houseplants, Gerta the Snake, and an assortment of turtles, frogs, toads, birds, and, of course, me — would like to wish you all the happiest of holidays. You are the best friends that any cooking-gardening-lifestyle writer could have. Let’s toast each other with a cup of spiked eggnog, okay? Clink!
Oh. Here’s the eggnog. You’ll find extra nog (bourbon) in the decanter.
And while you’re sipping, why don’t you tell me what you’re planning for the holidays?

I raise a glass to you this holiday season, Kevin! Thank you for sharing so much beauty with us!
Go raibh tú daibhir i mí-áidh
Agus saibhir i mbeannachtaí
Go mall ag déanamh namhaid, go luath a déanamh carad,
Ach saibhir nó daibhir, go mall nó go luath,
Nach raibh ach áthas agat
Ón lá seo amach.
(May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make enemies,
quick to make friends,
But rich or poor, quick or slow,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.)

Merry Christmas Kevin!
I stumbled upon your blog about two months ago and I just love it!!! Thanks so much for all of the gardening, household, and cooking tips and recipes you give all of your faithful readers! I am very excited to start winter sowing soon!
For Christmas, we will be having about 15 guests over, plus my family of five, two dogs, and three cats all in our smaller-sized house, so having a few drinks will be absolutely mandatory for my sanity!
Again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family!

Merry Christmas Kevin and the rest of the crew that inhabits that beautiful old house. I can’t say I am snake friendly but if you love her, have at it. You and Lily brighten my day with your recipies and redecorating. It is as if you are right here talking me thru a cooking lesson. Hope your Christmas is happy and warm, filled with friends and food. We will host our family of 12,two of whom are great-grandsons. Bedlam is a great word for our celebrations but it is wrapped in love and giggles. Merry Christmas and lets all wish for a peaceful New Year.

Merry Christmas, Kevin!
Today, is my family Christmas mayhem – I mean gathering. My sister, thank goodness, is hosting this year. Most of the immediate family will attend. That means my mother, six of her eight children, all but six of her 20 grandchildren and probably a dozen of her 24 great-grandchildren will flow in and out of my sister’s small home for hours and hours. Her husband is smoking a turkey and a pork roast and everyone else is bringing a side dish. My job is to provide a macaroni and cheese casserole and southern sweet iced tea.
Christmas Day will be a much smaller celebration at our home with my husband, my mother, one of my two sons and any family strays we can find. Next weekend, my youngest brother “comes home” to visit with a wife and three of his six young adult children. I plan to barbecue ribs for that crowd!
So, you see, our Christmas celebration lasts us about a week.
May yours be as splendid as you are!

A toast to you Kevin and to your loved ones (humans, fauna and flora).
You have inspired me to be a better gardener, a better cook and a better steward of nature.
You wow us again with the most festive and elegant arrangement .
Here’s from a 110 year old book of my collection of many (The Christmas Kalends of Provence by Thomas H. Janvier):
Cacho-fió,
Bouto-fió!
Alègre!Alègre!
Dièu nous alègre!
Calèndo vèn!Tout bèn vèn!
Dièu nous fague la gráci de vèire l’an que vèn,
E se noun sian pas mai, que noun fuguen pas mens!
Yule-log,
Catch fire!
Joy! Joy!
God gives us joy!
Christmas Comes! All good comes!
May God give us grace to see the coming year,
And if we are not more, may we not be less!
We will have a simple celebration here in Arizona but will also spend many happy hours calling my husband’s family and our children in New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York and my sisters in Burgundy, Provence and Spain.
Wishing all good health and much happiness in your gardens.

Merry Christmas, Kevin, to you and all that are dear to you! For Christmas I’ll be celebrating by myself here in Northern Ohio, as the entire family, sons, wives, ex-wives, GF, and kids all be arriving on Saturday. That way we can have a good long festivity and they don’t have to leave so early for the long drive home, at least not before eating all the many goodies.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!!
