LAST WEEK, when my partner and I visited Charleston, West Virginia, we stayed at the drop-dead gorgeous home of our new friends Gary and Gary. I found it hard to believe that Gary-x-2 are not cooks. For on their kitchen counter was a Kitchen Aid standing mixer in a glowing shade of tangerine. That colorful mixer, or at least the new one I felt compelled to purchase the moment I arrived home, is the subject of this week’s random drawing.
I use my own Kitchen Aid mixer (a basic-black model) for simplifying all kinds of dishes. For instance…
Pain de Mie. The standing mixer, which comes with a dough hook, kneads the ingredients for this beautiful, buttery, easy-to-slice French Sandwich Bread in just minutes. Here’s the recipe.
Raised Doughnuts with Orange Cognac Glaze. Wanna make these adults-only doughnuts? The standing mixer will do almost all of the work for you. Have a look.
Souffles. Need to whip egg whites for souffles both savory and sweet? The mixer will beat those whites to stiff peaks in only seconds, as proved in my recipe for this so-delicious-you-will-swoon Strawberry Souffle.
Queen Victoria Cake. This easy but elegant tea-time dessert is composed of layers of sponge cake, with great gobs of whipped cream spread between. The mixer’s whisking attachment will accomplish hands-free whipping in the time it takes you to dash off a nasty email to your ex-boyfriend.Β The recipe.
Decadent Cream Cheese Frosting. And I do mean decadent. This lusciousness contains butter, cream cheese and Cointreau (an orange-liqueur), all blended to fluffy perfection with the standing mixer’s paddle attachment. I dare you to read the recipe.
Chocolate Layer Cake with Milk Chocolate Frosting. The paddle attachment will also cream butter, sugar, and (gasp!) molten chocolate for this perfect-for-a-birthday-party dessert. My step-by-step instructions.

Summer plans are somewhat pedestrian for me – keep the clocks wound and the garden watered. People think of the Pacific Northwest as being so wet, but we actually suffer terrible drought in the summer months. With many new things planted this past Spring, i’ll need to keep of top of the watering.
Oh, and there are new ukuleles to play!
Music and a garden. What more to we need really (save for a standing mixer). π

Puttering in the garden is about all I have planned for the summer. We’re changing over a large portion of the veggie space to raised beds this year. At the moment, we’re not-so-patiently waiting for the first tomatoes and cucumbers while watching the Ambrosia muskmelon and Sugar Baby watermelon for successfully pollinated baby melons. We finally had our first heat wave this week and everything has decided it will grow after all this year!
My stand mixer is on its last legs and tangerine orange is up there on my list of favorite colors. Thanks so much for offering such wonderful gifts, Kevin!
Mary says
My mixer has had a number of repairs, and while using it weekly to make butter (from a local farm’s raw milk), it makes such a high-pitched whine, it is hard to stay in the room with it! A replacement is in order!!
Margaret says
That beautiful Tangerine color gives me a heart ache.. My husband was a painter and I once remarked that I didn’t like orange.. He was startled and said, “How on earth can you not like orange?” He made beautiful paintings with bits of orange in them over the years..
He passed away in 2000, and I realised a few years later that I just LOVED orange, and had loved it for years!
And funny enough, our daughter and I have been searching for a KitchenAid mixer for the past week!
When I saw your post I almost plotzed! Your page has been fun to follow, but this is ridiculously fun.. Whoever wins it, good on you!

My plans for the summer include searching for a new job. The greenhouse I’ve worked at for the past 15 years is closing!! Aside from that…. I’m sure I’ll be working in the garden a lot. Putting in a new pea gravel path through my shade garden… Pruning roses… Deadheading… Watering and fertilizing… And probably whipping up at least a few fabulous summer desserts. And while my old Kitchen Aid more than does the job… A new shiny model would be oh so fabulous!

What a wonderful give away! You are so generous! Glad you enjoyed your Charleston trip! We live along the Assawoman Bay by Fenwick Island, DE and already traffic is horrific with tourist coming in for the 4th. It’s never boring here and we enjoy it year round. We have The Freeman Stage just half a mile away and have concerts. Some are free but with the big name famous entertainers of course we gladly pay. I am blessed to live here and have many fond memories of our beach before it was discovered. We lived just 8 miles away, but still rented a cottage for part of the summers. My husband made my dream of living here full time come true and I’m glad he loves it too!

Summer time is busy time. I just put in some new garden beds for my daughter and son in law. Planted clematis, blackberry lilies, red lilies, peony, coreopsis, creeping thyme and flax. I started working for one of my neighbors, weeding and dividing plants in her garden. Taking the grandkids camping for their first time, going to Newport with my daughters and possibly a trip to California to visit my other daughter. Whew, and in between all that, I will be tending my tomatoes, onions, eggplant, cucumbers and squash. Thanks for the giveaway! Have a great day!
Rebecca J says
If I had a mixer to go along with the handy dandy bread pan I recently purchased (thank you for the suggestion) I may, somehow, begin the path towards (gulp) learning to cook. Then one day my dinner will consist of more than Oreos.
Summer plans are backpacking in the Sierras and camping in the desert. Love summertime fun!

I wish I had this. I just finished baking mini cupcakes to create a flag cupcake cake to bring to the 4th of July potluck tomorrow. And, baking on a day when it is 113 degrees would have been so much faster with a new stand mixer.

Hoping I win! π

I usually make fantabulous marjolaine, except for this one time. I recently took a job in Northern Michigan. While I was prepared to order my favorite go-to cooking ingredients (porcini salt, Cluizel 62% baking pastilles, Edmond Faillot walnut dijon mustard), I was not prepared for the huge differences in cooking time and temperature from my old home downstate. My meringue whipped up, sort of (it was a humid day and I had no mixer), and when I went to bake it, I ended up with a gummy, burnt mess. I salvaged enough of it for the marjolaine, and my coworkers said they liked it… but they’ve never tried it at my best.

We have already gone on our vacation, ending last Sunday. We live in AZ and decided to go to South Lake Tahoe, CA which was an 11 hour drive for us. It was a beautiful drive through small desert towns, through the desert then we started to climb and saw the beautiful snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevadas. As we climbed up and down mountains there were lakes that we passed by, remnants of burned out areas from past wildfires and lovely wildflowers all along the road and fields. The last mountain we climbed (the final climb and descent) we nicknamed “SCARY MOUNTAIN” because it was just that, EXTREMELY SCARY climbing up to 8000 feet then rapidly descending (it was shorter coming down so it was much scarier lol) to level out at 6000+ feet in Stateline, NV and as soon as we passed a few casinos, we were in California without even knowing it. The drive was part of the destination for sure. It only got better with lush forests to be hiked and boat trips across one of America’s deepest lakes. They said it would take 700 years to drain it. After a fabulous week there (btw we left AZ and it was well over 100 degrees and it was 31 degrees at night in Lake Tahoe and low 60s during the day), we were ready to start booking for next year. Or maybe we could go again at the end of the summer….pllleeeaaassseee???

My summer plans is to learn to grow, can/preserve, and cook home foods so that our house can become more independent and help my kids learn the value of food. Many kids don’t fully understand where food comes from, so I’m tearing out that horrible grass that I don’t even upkeep, for a place to grow tomatoes, peppers, and fruit trees. It’s coming along great. Thanks!

I am a longtime fan of your site, Kevin, and I pore through each newsletter for tips and recipes. The most recent recipe I tried was the chicken breast in tarragon cream sauce and it was delicious! I really appreciate how you have broken out the garden chores into monthly segments that organize maintenance and upgrades into manageable bits. I would love to win the tangerine Kitchen Aid mixer– it would complement my Ibiza/Greek island-style kitchen, the color palette for which is tea-stain neutrals spiked with deep green, peach, sunny yellow, and paprika red. When I’m not at work, my summer plans include finishing the remodeling of the master bedroom, working in my custom-designed raised-bed garden, and a camping trip to Cook State Forest in Western PA.

Am full time care giver for my Mom. The mixer would be invaluable in speedy food prep.

Every year, my raised-bed garden grows a little bit as I try something new. This year, in addition to my stand-by tomatoes (all heirloom), peppers, spinach and lettuce, I’m growing celery, carrots, and pole beans. And I’ve put in some rhubarb transplanted from a friend’s patch; so next year I’ll be able to make some yummy rhubarb concoctions with the help of that stand mixer.

Our summer plans are fluid this year, just like the overabundance of rain Ohio is receiving this summer. Makes up for the super dry summers we have had the past few years. We want to visit our grown children but between Jury duty and doctor appointments and our son relocating from NJ to Atlanta in a month not sure when we will manage it. Before you know it my husband will be back to his teaching job. Oh well, the pool and gardens keep us busy here in the summer anyhow.

“Summer vacation” no longer applies since I have stopped teaching. I am 100% retired and have 12 months of vacation annually. However, I know what you mean…. where are we all traveling… I am unable to tear myself away from the garden in the growing months of April through October. Any trips we take occur in February or March. Our favorite trips so far have been to Paris where my brother is located. TOO MUCH FUN!!!!

I saved your garlic scape recipe from last year, counting down the days to 2013 scapes. But, our CSA had a poor crop of garlic this year with hardly a half pound for each share. I had some mail-ordered in (from Washington State to Maryland). I pulled up your recipe and now have 2 batches chilling. I’ve enjoyed ‘clicking around’ your site–amazing ideas, suggestions and recipes! Thanks!

Well, automation hasn’t made it to my kitchen. Not yet, anyway. I’m still in the early 1900s…spoons and paddles are my mixers. I keep trying for the food processors you so generously give away, but alas, no luck. I make a loaf of whole wheat bread every three days…the old fashioned way…by hand, using a spoon for mixing, then kneading using blunt human force. This could revolutionize my bread making and my outlook! Thanks, whether I am THE winner or not. Thanks for your fine blog, my blog-mate!
Soledad Song says
I have always wanted a Kitchen-Aid mixer of my very own. My last mixer was stolen by a shady ex-roommate, so I am mixerless at the moment. Thank you for holding this contest! π

summer plans? work in the garden, work in the garden, and… oh, work in the garden! and, since our son is entering college this fall, the garden is our new kid — we’d never be able to take a summer vacation without hiring someone to garden-sit. and this is totally cool. there are worse obsessions than gardening. now for that mixer… since it is close to the color of my kitchen it would be smashingly good looking on the counter (oh, and finally i’d be able to add baking to my culinary repertoire).

I’d just take pictures of her enjoying the mixer.

Last year I was able to go to France for the first time in my life, to visit my daughter who had just spent the year there. She lived in Tours, a city with which I am now in love, and we visited several of the chateaux in the Loire Valley. I also hopped over to England to visit my deer relatives, whom I hadn’t seen in 16 years, and then we packed up her apartment and stayed a few days in Paris before coming home together. It was idyllic. The French people were so kind and patient with my long-ago-one-year-of-college French. I came back only to fly down to be with friends who rented a beach house on the Jersey Shore with their family. After all that, this year my budget demands that I spend very little. In fact I am teaching summer school for six weeks, which begins tomorrow!

Summer Plans… spend as much time with my aging grandparents as possible! Grandma is 92 this fall and Grandpa is 89. I am trying out your suggestions for killing the weeds in my garden, doing a test patch of the newspaper. Thanks! I want to encourage my toads and discourage the potato beetles so I don’t want chemicals. What would I do with a mixer? I would give it to one of my sisters. I could not live without my own white beast. I make three loaves of bread each week, and give two away. I would never undertake this without the help of a mixer.
Great emails, thanks!

Hi Kevin, love your blog and all the recipes!! We’re keeping busy trying to keep the deer from jumping the fence into the garden and away from the fruit trees. Have already picked 2 large buckets of plums and about 3 times that many left – you know what I’ll be doing this week.
Thanks for the chance to win that beautiful tangerine gem, I could really put it to good use!!!!
mel says
I was going to comment on the smoothie page, but might as well say it here. I had an issue with low potassium a few weeks ago which landed me and my soon to be kiddo in the hospital for an overnighter on ivy’s. Since then I have been making smoothies with the standard yogurt and frozen fruit, but now I am adding a big handful of spinach from the garden and coconut water to thin it out. The coconut water is filled with electrolytes and the spinach is just plain old good for you. Depending on the fruit used (often frozen strawberries, mango and banana) and the proportions it may be a bit green, but it still tastes sweet and delicious.
Polly Snodgrass says
Would love this. Now that I am retired there is more time for bakig.
Joyce says
A beautiful tangerine mixer would be just the best to keep me happy indoors as the rains keep coming and keep me from doing much in the garden. Haven’t had to do much watering this year. After two years of drought we are now 15 in above normal in rain fall and more predicted for every day this coming week. Got the Wet In Georgia Blues.
Cheryl says

I just got back last night from a week long trip to northern Michigan. Fifteen hours in the car yesterday! Today my plan is to head out to my garden, see how it fared while I was gone. My 91 year old mother has just moved in with my husband and I. She still loves to bake and has been using my hand held mixer. The end results are yummy BUT the process is a bit messy. I grew up with a mother who cooked for economic reasons. Later in life, she began cooking for fun and started accumulating kitchen gadgets. The first mixer we had was an ancient red and white model; I can’t remember the manufacturer. However, all culinary endeavors changed when she got a Kitchen Aid standing mixer. I can still see its avocado green color, which was in fashion at that time. That mixer survived 20 years of loving use with her before passing on to my older sister. It is still in operation.
I have never owned more than a Kitchen Aid hand mixer but love to have the standing model as well. Its versatility would be an asset for me in baking for both my home and my high school students.
Thank you.

Cooking up my fresh veggies is a challenge due to a busy schedule, but I do what I can.
Sharon says
LOL. My “vacation plans” consist of supervising the construction of “Daddy land”, a senior-friendly apartment build out in my attic, complete with walk-in whirlpool tub, open floor plan, and walk-in/roll-in closet for him and a chair lift for the stairs to get him up there. My Dad is going to be 90 in Jan. and has the beginnings of Alzheimer’s so he can no longer live alone and coming to live with me is the optimal solution right now. So I’m housebound with the contractors and cooking is my only escape!
Evelyn says

I know it is random but I will say that I will be celebrating 40 years of marriage, including cooking for my family, and I have NEVER had a stand mixer. A little hand mixer has been part of my kitchen. I’m on my second one. The first, a wedding gift, finally quit and I had to purchase a new one. If I were to win your giveaway, I would be thrilled. There are, however, young families that could use it more, I’m sure. I enjoy your Sunday letters! Thanks!

I would love to win this mixer. I’ve been wanting to try my hand at a souffle, or a fluffy butter cream icing. Our current stand mixer is a hand-me-down that is on its last legs. With this I could also try my hand at sausages. I recently got some organic flour from Greenwillow Grains that I’ve been wanting to try in some various recipes. But due to my dodgy mixer, I’ve been having to do much of the mixing by hand. Thank you for all the wonderful yummy recipes and ideas!

It’s raining again here in the mitten state. We were able to get our hay bought for the year in between rains! Good for my gardens, bad for hay farmers and my husbands job. He works in water and sewer lines construction. Can’t work when it’s raining.
I finally got all my milk jug plants in the ground. Probably a little late for some. Oh well. Not like I don’t have more than enough:) Thankyou for the idea of winter sowing. I had about 50/50 % success. But it saved me tons by not having to buy plants. And…really looking forward to my new MIXER;);) Have a Great Day!

Summer plans for our family are staying close to home this summer. We have a bigger garden, which we are enjoying this year and this is our first year of composting, so we are learning a lot. We will spend lots of time around our fire pit in the evening and enjoy the hammock under the trees in the daytime. We hope to sneak in some camping and will definitely go on hikes in our beautiful state of Oregon. We may not be going on vacation, but are blessed to have what we do have.

Rosalie Romano says
Kevin,
I am off work for the summer and am finally able to take time for all the inspired recipes and garden tips you offer on your delectable blog!!!
The chive pesto is dreamy, especially spread on baguette slices, then with a slow roasted tomato to top it, adding a sprig of fresh chive stem. Lovely and delicious.
The garlic scape and white bean dip turned out to be a hit for a dinner party on the deck. Creamy and aromatic, the garlic scapes offered a mild adventure and foil for the smooth smooshed beans.
The chive vinegar is simply a work of art! Pink and vibrant in the jar, when mixed with olive oil and fresh herbs, it matches mesclun/goat cheese/beet green salad perfectly.
Waiting for local tomatoes to come into season so I can make that luscious tomato tart from last summer. I must have had a dozen requests to bring that tart to picnics and parties. Wow!
Thank you for the many gems of photos, wit, ingenuity and inspiration!!! Your fond fan, r2

I’ve been watching my father put his KitchenAid through its paces for years…. He didn’t start \baking until after he retired, but now routinely whips up sweet buns, cakes, eclairs and other indulgences. I’d be more likely to use it for gluten-free treats, but a stand-mixer is definitely on my “life list”… (By the way, Kevin, I just decanted my second round of chive-blossom vinegar made with the flowers from the younger, later-blooming clumps…. Almost time to start in on the lemon-herb vinegars; I have lemon-thyme, lemon-balm and lemon-verbena this year….)

I’m thrilled to say I’ve already enjoyed 2 trips this summer. A weekend in Vegas and a jaunt from Cali into the Pacific Northwest helping to move a friend into Washington State. Lenny was turning 50 and we enjoyed his birthday with him, first visiting the Lion Ranch Habitat then South Point Casino, ending the day with a fantastic meal at the OSAKA bistro all in Henderson, Nv. Yesterday I just returned from a road trip taken with 2 longtime friends. We traveled the I-5 to Vancouver, BC. Each of us had relatives that we enjoyed visiting with at different stops along the way. The scenary was beautiful and the people friendly. We spent the 4th of July watching fireworks on the shores of Bellingham, Wa. after a 10PM sunset.

Hi Kevin,
Our summer has been busy and will be thru September! We are part of a group that plans, organizes and promotes a bluegrass festival the 2nd weekend in June in northern Indiana. It was a huge success, and a lot of work. Next we are having family from the east coast in for a july 20th family get together. If that wasn’t enough, we leave for a 2 1/2 week trip to Alaska in August, then go to Minnesota for a wedding.
I love to make bread- haven’t bought any store bread for probably 2 years now. My husband’s favorite is seeded rye… I enjoy your newsletters and admire your gardens.
All the best to you!!

Love the Tangerine color of the stand mixer! Have never owned one and often wondered if it might improve my baking (or at least speed it along). All the rain and humidity this summer has chased me inside and forced me to turn on the dreaded air conditioning. One good side effect is that it makes me want to bake more! Thinking of making your lavender shortbread cookies this week and then inviting some friends for iced tea on the porch. Really enjoy reading your blog…. the pictures bring me right in and your sense of humor is delicious. Keep it up!

I am the queen of multi tasking, though it sometimes comes back to bite me (one can not fall asleep while ‘resting one’s eyes’ when 24 eggs are boiling for a huge plate of deviled eggs to greet company for the 4th celebration)! Fortunately, the eggs were on sale and the black charred circles at the bottom of the expensive pot dissolved! Whew! Am I cured? I should say not. With a stand mixer, I could do at least 3 other things while the 4th is mixing away all on its own! π

Love all the recipients you offer up. I’ve tried many with great success. I’ve all but given up baking because I’ve burned out every hand mixer I’ve ever had. It’s tough to get half way through a recipe and end up having to mix it by hand… things just don’t turn out the same way.
Love the website!! I hope my number comes up!

I’ve desired a Kitchen Aid Mixer for YEARS! I have a standard Sunbeam mixer that has a good bit of age on it with no fancy gadgets to attach.
I hail from north-central Maryland where it is HOT right now, but always beautiful with rolling hills and farmland in abundance.
Barb Ahlrichs says
That’s a lot of comments so far. I’d love to have a new Kitchen Aid mixer. I wore out the one I received in 1963 as a shower present and haven’t been able to replace it. I sure miss it. My small hand mixer just doesn’t do all those things a Kitchen Aid does. I’m hoping to visit Idaho this summer.

I have an old white Kitchen Aid mixer. It has been used for baking and canning, sausage making and pizza dough. I have used it to make hundreds of cakes including my daughters wedding cake in 2009. I don’t think tangerine was even thought of back when I got mine.

I miss my mixer. I used it so much while my kids were growing up. I made cakes for everyone and decorated them. The mixer was an awesome helper until it died. Because I have developed arthritis in my hands I can no longer use the hand mixer to make the icing and be able to decorate the cakes too. I have made so many doll cakes for little girls and football cakes for little boys. I have made wedding cakes for friends and family. The oddest cake I ever made was a coffin with raspberry filling and lilies on top. My friend’s son was turning 20 and she was having a “death of his teen years” for him. Like I said, it was odd… LOL… But then again so are some of my friends!! When I did the wedding cakes I usually did the flowers for the wedding too. No wonder my hands hurt.
I want to thank you for the lovely pictures you post. And to tell you that I so enjoy your email and the suggestions. I have used several and have told my husband about some of the garden suggestions to help him outside.
Thanks again!
Sue

Love love love the color! I am in the process of choosing a color scheme for my kitchen remodel. If I win this, I may use that tangerine as my inspiration!
Also, it will be a nice replacement for my hand mixer, which has lost the ability to function on slow speed. It goes from “off” to “high” no matter what setting you actually put it on…..gets a little messy π
Lori O'Leary says
I’m sure you get this a lot, but I just LOVE your site! Thank you for all the wonderful recipes and your great sense of humor is sprinkled in just the right places π Summer finally made it to MN and the veggie garden is really taking off. My son was 14 when I finally inherited my mom’s (circa late ’50’s) chrome Hamilton-Beech stand mixer. He was amazed that you didn’t have to hold the bowl! It’s died more than once and I can’t find anyone to fix it this time. I hope I win the Orange on the Range mixer!

Hi, What a happy color to have in the kitchen. Would whip up some of those wonderful recipes right now, if I had a new Kitchen Aid hands-free mixer. What wonderful newsletters. Thank you for each and every one of them.
Nancy MacArthur says
Hi Kevin…
I’m a fairly new reader of your newsletter and I just love it. I bake and cook by hand, so I can do without a mixer. However, I know some people that would really appreciate one. We have a small charity in town called “A Place Called Home”. It provides temporary emergency housing for men, women, children and/or families who find themselves suddenly homeless due to situations such as eviction due to a job loss and therefore shortage of rent, abused women and children seeking a safe haven, etc. It provides a safe, warm place to sleep, shower facilities, home made meals, a small play yard for the children, and assistance in getting back on their feet.I think they have space for about 22 people at a time. I’m sure the caring staff who prepare 3 meals a day for these residents would make great use of that beautiful mixer! Thanks for the opportunity to enter your generous giveaway!

Maybe I’ll make it to the beach for a day or two this summer – after the move of course.
Thank you again for your great newsletter. I love your “picture by picture” instructions – they are extremely helpful!

While I absolutely loathe the word “staycation”, that is exactly what my partner and I are doing this summer. Our second child is finishing high school over the summer, and has her first summer job. We’re nearly officially empty nesters. So we’ve decided to stay in town, clean house and change it up a bit (we’ve gone ‘shopping’ with our own stuff), and make plans for our future adventure – in a couple of years we’ll be heading east, watch out! π

Kevin, If I won this mixer I would make home made marshmallows every week! As it is, I have to borrow a stand mixer from a friend because you can’t make marshmallows any other way. I have been baking lots of breads for the past several months, after a friend provided some sour dough starter for me. We’ve made so many fabulous things together and always admire the recipes you provide in your newsletter, not to mention all the tips/tricks from you own beautiful gardens!
You are a true inspiration and hope to one day meet you!

I am fairly new to your website. I love how creative and interesting you and all the garden info and recipes are. It is so fun to receive each time.
My family comes form a long line of Kitchen Aids. My Nana was an avid gardener, cook and baker. My earliest memory (dating myself here) is of her using a deep bowl and her two hands to cream butter, mix batter etc. before she had her mixer. My Mom, Nana to my children, is the queen of baking and has delighted the entire family and many a visitor with her bake goods all with the Kitchen Aid.
From one generation to the next we have passed on the recipes and the family legacy with Kitchen Aid. Love that I opened your email and you are giving away the Tangerine “miracle machine”. Thank you for sharing all the yummy recipes!
Kim

I have recently found your website. I am in the process of using newspaper in my garden. Lots of pesky weeds . Can I cut my iris down now. And what do I do with the stalks from my poppies. Thanks for the help to make my gardening easier.

I’m interested in the Kitchen Aid mixer as long as it comes with you and/ or your recipe book! As it is my email inbox was so packed with emails from your blog I had to make a folder to find your recipes that I’d like to try! The gardening advice has been top notch as well. I’ve currently mulched my vegetable garden not only with lawn clippings, per usual, but newspaper. It’s currently weed free (in that section, we won’t talk about the rest) and I’m attempting to create a shade garden on our land to expand our gardens. Thanks so much, and keep up the fantastic and helpful blog! Nothing like a giveaway to motivate people for comments… π

I remember way back in the late 50’s our white Kitchen Aide my mom used for so much of what we ate. That appliance was a mainstay and outlasted everything else in the kitchen. I was fascinated with it and have always wanted one. Now, 50 plus years later I am still waiting to own one. What a wonderful opportunity you have presented. As for my plans this summer, I will be planning and executing the cleaning up, cutting back or digging up of a cazillion daylily plants along with tending lots of rhododendrons, azaleas, junipers, hedges, and many other bushes and trees. I love nature and all living things. Working in the yard has such a calming effect. Thank you for all your great articles and wonderful recipes.

Bonita Watkins says
This Kitchen Aid mixer would be a beautiful replacement for the “197?” Oster Regency stand mixer I currently have!! Oh but she has some stories to tell!! All the birthday cakes and frosting that she has faithfully prepared for our family! And I think possibly the “New York Style” cheesecakes have been her favorite! All flavors, strawberry, blueberry, pumkin, sweet potato…(if you haven’t tried a sweet potato cheesecake, you just don’t know what your missing), she has whipped creme and beat eggs! Why…I couldn’t begin to count the number of children that have had the pleasure of joyfully cleaning some sweet delicious desert from her beaters!! Sadly, just like us…the old girl is slowing down. She doesn’t quite have the strength she used to have either. Why sometimes she can’t even get up enough momentum to spin the bowl anymore. But because she has been so faithful over the years, I gently will help her along with a light nudge on the side of the bowl. She really appreciates it, I can tell, because her beaters keep beating, and together we continue to create numerous varieties of delicious goodies for the rest of the family!!
cindy says
I have been wanting one of these for years, and the money always has to go to something else. I would be thrilled to win this…so many good recipes here to try!

OK, for the last time…will you marry me?? (just kidding…sort of..hahaha) Anyway, your friends Gary and Gary look upon their beautiful tangerine stand mixer as a piece of art…I think..and so do I.. I must admit I have the lovely green model from years ago. No working kitchen should be without one. But my new black and white kitchen in the retirement home we are working on up north could certainly use a piece of art as lovely as this one! π

56-yrs-old. Never owned stand mixer. Have a healthy fear of baking. Tangerine would entice me to face my fear.

Oooooo – the strawberry souffle looks amazing! I just bought eight white ramekins (for another dessert) but may change my mind and make the souffles with our wonderful, best ever, Oregon strawberries! And what better tool to have on hand than a brand new tangerine mixer! Pick me, pick me!!! π

What a different summer than last, by this time last year here in North Central Indiana we were burnt up with drought. Rain and humidity is the ticket this year. Great for weed growing! Hard to keep up with the garden but after that hot, 100 degree, dry weather last summer I’m not complaining. That tangerine mixer is a trip! What a statement for the kitchen.

When my now 17-year-old was 9, I was shopping for a Kitchen Aid Professional. I wanted the red one. She asked why they were so expensive and I said because they last forever. “This thing will be around so long that when I die, you will probably get it.” To which she replied, “In that case, get THIS one! (pointing to the matte titanium) …
Guess which one is in my kitchen and used by me, her and my 12-year-old cookie baker extraordinaire?
Yep – Matte Titanium.
