Please enjoy this recipe from my “Garden Tour and a Cocktail” video that was published this morning on YouTube. The cocktail in question? A thick, rich, uber-refreshing Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri! It’s the ideal signature cocktail for a summertime get-together. Here’s how to make this luxurious poem with just three ingredients:
Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri: The Ingredients
Rum — 4 1/2 ounces (three jiggers). You can use light rum or coconut rum. I favor coconut rum because it lends a tropical touch to a frozen strawberry daquiri.
Fresh strawberries — a handful (about 5 ounces). Besides adding abundant perfume and flavor, fresh berries keep the daquiri from being too thick. Be sure to use in-season berries.
Frozen strawberries — 9-10 ounces. These are for thickening, flavoring, and instantly-chilling the daquiri. You won’t need ice! Store-bought berries are fine. Related post: How to Freeze Strawberries.
The juice of 1 freshly-squeezed lime. This contributes tartness to balance out the sweetness of the strawberries.
How to Make a Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri:
Tip the rum, the fresh and frozen strawberries, and the lime juice into the jar of an electric blender.
Blend at high speed until smooth — about 30 seconds. The puree will be very thick. If you wish to thin it out, simply add more fresh strawberries, more lime juice, and more rum.
Divide this ruby richness among two large or four standard cocktail glasses. Garnish the rim of each glass with a slice of lime and a whole, fresh strawberry. Serve with pride on a hot summer evening.

We are shameless copy cats, when it comes to your gardens, and I can’t wait to try this enticing drink. Kevin, I was wondering what you do with the straw that you put in your beds. The herb garden video shows a fine chopped straw and the irrigation video shows the sort of straw from a large bale that I am trying this year.
Lyn says
I just ran downstairs to my pantry and grabbed my bottle of rum – just bought homegrown strawberries yesterday! Can’t wait to mix this up this afternoon.

Hi Belinda – I use the same type of straw each year. It is a “heat-treated” straw that is sold in a large, bale-shaped bag. Usually I leave the straw on top of the beds over winter. There, it decomposes and becomes part of the soil.
Hi Lyn – Hope you enjoy this luxuriously thick daiquiri!

Hi Kevin,
Is that background music a recording of your piano playing?
It added much pleasure to your herb garden tour.
Thanks!
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Hi Linda – Not me playing piano on the video. One of these days I will record myself on piano, and use on the videos!

Hi Kevin,
I have enjoyed your home tours immensely. I love antiques and what to thank you and Mr. Fox for renovating your beautiful home for future enjoyment. I am sure at a pretty patriotic penny!
I also cherish your recipes. They are so tasty and you make it look so easy every time.
I’m not an alcohol drinker but your strawberry daiquiri looks so cool and refreshing. Do you think I could drink this or is it a strong alcohol drink?
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Hi Esperanza – Thank you for your kind words. This drink would be delicious even without the rum. Enjoy!!!

Hi Kevin! Did not know we could pinch off tops of giant zinnias. They just keep growing.. up with no blooms yet. Husband thought I bought more new plants because they grew so fast he did not recognize them in the pot they were in. Silly, but think that is part of the fun of gardening. Disappointing and surprising like children. ha! ha!
You are so right about limes. Lemons are wonderful with so many things. Fish, chicken, rice, butter, garlic, wine, my mouth waters. Lime is a different citrus altogether. Can’t imagine a margarita without lime. There was a song from the 70’s to put the lime with the coconut and drink it all up. Harry Nilsson . He should have added strawberries and a pinch of rum!
Love ya,
