I am a native of Florida and have lived here all my life. Only a native can discern when fall comes to Florida: it is the subtle break in the heat, a slight breeze that wafts through your hair, and a tingle that runs through your bones. Northerners that move to Florida swear we don’t have a fall . . . but they are oh so wrong!

What do you love about autumn? I think what I love most about autumn is the memories it brings back of childhood. It was a time raking leaves, putting things away from summer, looking forward to winter. The world was a kinder and happier place at that time, at least in our family. We were a large family, with not a lot of money but a lot of love. I remember burning the leaves in the barrel – I can smell them now….cottonwoods, oak.. And mom putting up apples for great pies and cobblers in the winter. days gone by. I love Autumn and thinking about all the great times we were going to have in winter and then spring would be there again! My favorite poem says it all. September by Helen Hunt Jackson:
The golden-rod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.
The gentian’s bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.
The sedges flaunt their harvest,
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook-side
Make asters in the brook.
From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes’ sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather,
And autumn’s best of cheer.

Texas is hot and if you live anywhere near the Gulf, it’s humid and muggy hot. When autumn finally makes its way down here, the humidity drops and it begins to feel cooler even before the really cool temperatures arrive. The skies become clearer especially at night, when the stars really stand out. The malaise of summer is gone and oven baked foods are back on the table. I have a new recipe for baked applesauce and I am looking forward to starting the day with warm applesauce shared on the front porch.
Keirstan says
There are too many things to count. Cooler temperatures, so I can enjoy long walks with my puppy. Pumpkin everything. Halloween. School starting back (I’m a super nerd and love to learn). Mostly autumn meant that my parent’s greenhouse business would start to slow down and we could spend more time together as a family.
Shawna Adam says
Fall in Orange County, CA? We won’t have one. It will remain in the high 80’s-100 degrees. The only two times it feels like Fall is early in the morning with the mist ( burns off by 7 am) and late evening hours after the sun has set and the evening air has cooled down to 70.
Tami says
The sounds of fall appear: the rumble of the pistachio harvesting equipment, the early morning popping of guns from dove hunters, baby goats bleating at the sunrise, and all the neighboring creatures answering their calls. My favorite though, is knowing that eventually, this hot, dusty air will be chased away by chilly breezes and the sprinkling (I hope!) of fall rain.

Robert Meehan says
I grew up in the Hudson Vally, between the Catskills and the Berkshires. My favorite Fall memory is walking around Lake Carmel in the evening. A moon shining down was always a bonus. But the smell and sound of the wind skidding leaves around and the crunch as you walked thru the leaves is always in my soul. Stark tree limbs against a moonlit night sky is not a scary sight to me but one of home. (I’ll not be picked for the processor but figured I”ll keep all the rest honest) 🙂
Tori Bazner says
I love the first day that I can wear a sweatshirt, how the air is crisp and cool after a hot summer.

To me fall feels like a fresh start and the anticipation of all the festivities that come with the season. For my husband fall means college football. To my little ones, fall means Halloween, pumpkins, and decorating the house. Vicki says
Making home-made apple pie and slicing the apples like Grandma Ethel…(she was always so proud to get that spiral slice all in one piece.) And…of course…using her recipe for the crust. Think I’ll make one today!

Concord grapes, apple pie, the delicious smells of bread baking, fresh cider, the leaves changing color to their fall finery, clouds of autumn clematis blossoms everywhere, skeins of geese overhead, the non-stop scurrying of the chipmunks building up their winter stores, the way the air feels different, pantry shelves filled to the brim with canned goodies to enjoy when the snow flies — the list goes on and on because I dearly love autumn.

Peg says
I love the cooler crisp days of autumn and the sleepable nights! the smell of fresh baked apples send me back to my childhood with fond memories.
Rosalinde Weber says
I love picking apples and making the first pies. I used to fill foil laid in pie plates with cut up apples pieces and seal & freeze them to have “apple pie inserts” for pies in the winter. We used to have many half wild apple trees, before we moved into town, and it was my joy every fall to harvest. My favorite tree was called the Grand Duchess, she gave us good MacIntosh type apples. She was shaped like a 17th century lady holding up her “skirts.” The deer browsed under there too, for the windfall apples. Good times. Now I have to buy apples at the Farmer’s Market. I miss my crazy trees.
Linda Hart says
I love the cooler nights. We lit our first wood fire in the fire cauldron last night and enjoyed a toasty gathering with friends. And canning, of course!

Just moved to 10 undeveloped acres in the South Cariboo region of BC and I’m loving watching the squirrels climb the pine trees, work really hard to pull an unripened pinecone off a branch, let it drop to the ground, scurry down, pick it up, then race off the some secret place to store it. Repeat. Over and over. I’m pretty sure that’s a sign of Fall.
clanross says
My favorite part is the improved weather — less humidity. But, the colors, the sense of change, getting out the woollies again; I love it all. I know I will miss the green, but it’s a chance to catch up on everything I let go all summer — basically anything that involved staying in the house. 🙂
Cindy says
Listening to all the crickets, and planting garlic in a couple of months. I really need a new food processor…mine broke this spring.
Sarah says
Being an October baby (67 years ago!) might account for fall being my favorite season, but I doubt that’s the reason. Many years ago, I lived on the island of Guam – paradise to some but fall in all its glory never arrives – I missed the change of seasons terribly!
Fall is time to pull out jackets and sweaters. The huge Oak tree out my second story window turns a brilliant shade of red. Tiny crabapples ripen, bringing deer even closer to the house for a sweet treat. Hunting season has begun so three deer have found soft, safe beds in the lariope beneath the oak. It’s time to light the chiminea, pour a glass of wine, sit back and enjoy the scents and sounds of fall in the air.
Thanks for creating such a wonderful website!

I can put the top down on my new Beetle convertible and can enjoy the cool breeze blowing through my hair – just like I did in 1964 with my first Beetle convertible! Yay!
Also the kitchen is cool enough to start thinking about making some homemade soups. I make a mean black bean soup!
Sharon says
Hi Kevin. Made your blackberry buckle a few weeks ago with my own berries. It was so easy to make & was awesome to eat. Heated up with ice cream on top. .Cannot wait to try your crème brulee. My favorite dessert.
Pat says
My sister and brother-in-law will be pulling in anytime now from Florida. When they’re here, I decorate the house with all autumn decorations, fresh sun flowers and zinnias from the garden, and will bake some freshly harvested eggplant for their dinner tonight. We’ll sit on the front porch first and have some cocktails, then dine al fresco on the back patio. The sun will still be warm as the cool breezes refresh us, and the crickets will begin their nightly concert shortly after dusk. They love apple picking with us and apple cider donuts. (Who doesn’t?) My senses become sharper because this is my favorite time of year. Could that be because I was born in October?
Lynn M says
Fall has always been my favorite season (born in October). Canning. Love seeing all of the fruits and veggies lining the pantry shelves.
Making apple pies and crisps are a huge favorite with the family.

Susan L. Golden says
I love Autumn so much that years ago I wrote a song about it:
“I’d love to be where it’s fall year round,
But two months a year is the best I’ve found.
So, I take time out to enjoy it all,
‘Cause nothing lifts my spirits like the feel of Fall”
I sit on my fence and I breath in the air,
It’s fresh and it’s crisp so I linger there.
And gaze up at trees where the sun beams dance,
And leaves tumble down in an avalanche.
I walk through the leaves and they crunch below,
And soon in their place will be drifts of snow.
‘Til then I’ll delight in the weeks ahead,
And revel in the autumn leaves of gold and red!
Now you know how much I love fall! 🙂

I love the smell of brand new #2 pencils coming out of their box, the sound of the school bus zooming past my house, the feel of light-weight jackets and the taste of a crispy apple in a school lunchbox. Rachel says
My favorite time of year – even the decaying leaves that will come later smell spicy, almost like cinnamon – the coloring of leaves in waves — first the maples then the oaks then the underbrush and everything else. Not to mention the black eyed susans and the gentians. It surprises me more people don’t grow gentians – they come back every year, unlike my experience of asters which is the only other blue I know of in autumn. Plus it’s my birthday month. I live in western Maryland, which is like New England #2: I love it! I’d like to win the cuisinart because it would be such an easy way to make pie crust.
Kirsten says
Great gift! What I love about fall is that there change so many things in the garden and in the woods. The colors, the leafs, little surprises when plants give a little last flower….. I love walking around in the garden and the wood to spot all these things 🙂
Sharon says
I like fall because all my N.E. Asters bloom in my gardens. They attract hundreds of Monarch butterflies for weeks before the migration. I like Autumn because it is a time to reflect on how bountiful our God is and what an artist He is with all the colors of leaves and flowers. I like the feel of the cooler weather and cleaning out the garden to can or freeze for the long, cold, winter here in Maine.

I love reflecting on the summer, and then preparing for the winter. The fall is the vehicle that transitions me from one season to the other. From hot to cold, the fall is the moderator for me. Love the blog, look forward to it every week. Thanks so much.

Deer, pheasant and turkey hunting. It is a fall ritual to add meat to the winter stores of produce from my garden. I appreciate that I can quickly and humanly harvest fresh meat for my family instead of relying on the tortured meat products provided to most supermarkets.

Annie says
No guarantees of cooler weather here in Southern California come Autumn/Fall…LOL…. But, when we do get those days, low 70’s, the breeze and the leaves falling and that scent in the air! I don’t how to descibe the scent, but it is heavenly. And watching college football while I seed shop online with a large pot of bean soup on the stove……the best!
Jennifer Lawver says
Mornings are cool and fresh, new scents fill the air,
Weather grows moody, and days grow shorter still.
A rediscovered sweater, nostalgic snuggle & sigh,
And a late October anniversary, that is why…
I adore autumn.
Joan Cordeniz says
The changing light, cooling weather, the colors, the last tomatoes from the garden, being able to knit without a fan directed at my hands, kids back in school, order restored.
Barbara D. says
One misconception about the Pacific Northwest is that it rains here all the time. In actuality, the summer’s are brutally dry, and if small trees or shrubs are out of range of the watering can, they can shrivel and perish. So although it may seem like an odd thing for someone from the Pacific Northwest to day, i’m looking forward to the rains of autumn most of all.
Tracey San says
Mmm…wood smoke outdoors. Lovely. EVERYTHING about fall is amazing. My allergies finally get relief! And as much as I love love love my garden…we need a teeny tiny break from one another. The gentle movement of the sun’s arch as the earth tilts…..changes the patterns on m y curtians…….along with the sweet smell of the earth in my gardens as I turn them over for the quiet of winter to come.
Sharon Norman says
Fall brings mixed emotions! I love, love, love summer and the bright colors and warm weather. Watching things grow overnight is such a pleasure. Fall is a time of treasuring memories and “putting to bed” my yard and garden until next spring. Gardening is hard in high desert areas like mine but I am creating ways to continue having fresh lettuce, spinach and basic garden produce throughout the winter months – new challenge – they don’t always work.
Susan Eastman says
It brings a nostalgia of home.
Lynnette Galloway says
The changing leaves and the cooler temps for better sleeping at night.
Mary says
Autumn won’t be here in Texas until October — and is it wonderful! Cool nights, warm days. I love it even more than Spring. I love putting in my winter garden (lettuce!) and setting up my hoop house — pulling weeds is so much more fun when the temperature isn’t a blast furnace! I do miss the good apples from up north. Our apples just aren’t the same… but when I’m making pesto with fresh basil in October, I’m not complaining!
Diane P. says
I love the fall because of all the beautiful colors. Walking through the woods, you see such gorgeous hues of yellow, orange, red, brown, and gold. I love the crisp autumn air, and, of course, football season!!

I love the brisk, cool air; there’s something about it that feels different in more ways than just temperature. My mind and body seem to come alive, more than in any other season.
For a long time, I had a theory that people born in the fall were especially drawn to that season. I can’t prove it scientifically, but it’s certainly true for me.
Linda says
Oh, yes, Barbara D, I am so looking forward to autumn rains, too! Otherwise, I can’t think of a thing about autumn that I don’t like. Welll, maybe the raking up of the gorgeous leaves. Now that I’m older, that is a little harder. But, oh, bring it on, Autumn!
Ashley C says
I love the colors, the horses getting furry again, pumpkin bread, fresh apples and plums from our trees and being able to slow down!

Growing up in PA, I loved the smell of burning leaves. Well in OR we rarely have crisp leaves to shuffle through, they soon turn to soggy wheaties. But I still love the chance, however infrequently to shuffle through the fragrant fallen autumn leaves. Nice new updated picture, Kevin.

Ahhhhh, the leaves…Pumpkin Pie…spiced apple cider…needing a light blanket to sit on the deck, Love autum!!!
Judy says
Everything! The weather, the colors, the holidays! Everyone and everything scurring around, preparing for winter, and yet time seems to slow down a bit. I love the warm days and the cool nights. As a kid, every club and organization we belonged to would have a weiner roast and a hay ride and I looked forward to them all year. Now I miss them terribly. I love that first cool snap, when I make a cauldron of vegetable soup. My mom would do that every year, and fix containers for each of us 6 kids, then drive to each of our homes, toot the horn, and deliver the soup. Wonderful memories.

Definitely the cooler weather. Unfortunately it marks the end of much of my growing but also is time to see how well we did saving during the summer and lots of hearty soups.

I love the color of my purple asters!!!

Of course, the weather. Also love to see my persimmon tree bearing fruit and not to far off .. satsumas will be blooming (Florida). We have a long growing season in NW Florida, so hopefully I’ll get some winter greens planted before the cold.

Kelly H says
I love everything about autumn! Apple-picking, the scent of grapes here in the air in New England, the crisp tang to the air and the scent of wood smoke just barely swirling about the edges. The light is beautiful, and I think my garden is at its best in September and October. It allows my mum collection to shine. 🙂
Kip Morrissette says
Moving south from New England (which takes most of your retirement via taxes), I love my memories of opening the windows and airing the house with the wonderful smell of fresh, cool air (and that smell you get from sheets that have been hung outside). Fall colors in New England are so beautiful due to the lush assortment of so many different trees. I just don’t miss racking all the leaves. Fall has always been my favorite season. Biting into a fresh apple right off the tree and hearing it snap is music from heaven. But, living without snow/ice in the Red Neck Riviera, minutes from the Gulf, reminds me how blessed we are for our past northern fall memories and our present winter season. I live in Southern California where you really have to pay attention to the seasonal changes. Subtle things like fruit tree leaves becoming slightly yellow… our summers can last into October, when I begin to long for cooler weather, and pray for rain. This is my first year to grow pumpkins for making jack o lanterns and creamy pumpkin soup laced with sherry. Happy fall, oh geru of fabulous food!
Regina says
I am always so ready for cooler weather. Lots of leaves to rake after putting last years in all the flower beds. Cleaning out dog houses, and putting new pine straw in them. Already collecting the buckeyes, to try to grow them from the seeds. Last year for the first time in 20+ years, the squirrels stole them from my porch, before I got them planted and dug up the ones I had gotten planted. Shows they knew we were going to have a colder winter. Love all the beautiful fall colors.

I love the sweet smell in the air while working in the gardens in the fall. We live on a hill, on property that was my grandparents…5th generation! So I’ll always remember working in the yard with my mom and having her stop to say…’If I stand still and listen, I can hear that old Rumley of my dads’….she said you could hear the men coming home at the end of harvesting in the community. I remember the sound as it was a part of my childhood….bum bumb BOOM…..coming up the hill. Crisp days, crisp apples, crisp leaves crunching under foot….and the smell of my mothers meatloaf and scalloped potatoes with fresh home made applesauce when we came in for supper. Sigh. Sweet times!

We don’t get a proper autumn here in north central Florida (Ocala), although the scrub oak tree in our front yard annoyingly sheds its leaves every year – they are very hard to rake up and if you don’t they’ll kill what passes for grass here. But I grew up in Connecticut and for me it was always about the colors, and the crisp autumn air – it was so invigorating. And it made me look forward to the winter when the lake froze and I could ice skate again. 🙂

What I love best about Fall in the Ozarks happens on that first silvery-crisp morning when the unique perfume of smoldering leaves mingles with the rich aroma of fresh brewed coffee from the kitchen. That’s the day we make “End-of-the-garen” relish from everything that won’t survive a hard freeze…a day for pulling out the stock pot for soups, stews and chilis for the freezer. Its a sudden shift when life turns inward, to home and family and
By that day we’ve adjusted to the solitary hush that descended on us the day the Hummingbirds left. And its time for the Bald and Golden Eagles.
Kenneth F says
I love the changes in our weather. Like last night it rained. The winter garden season has started. The Garlic and shallots are in. The early onions are planted too. The kitchen baking menu will be making a turn to a different schedule. Pear and bread pudding with cinnamon. Baking with tart fresh apples. The fresh stone fruit will soon be gone yet not forgotten. I’ll be making a sour dough starter for fresh breads and dinner rolls. Mmm. Fresh bread and the fragrance of pumpkin spice in the house. I turned 60 this last month. I’m still inspired by you and your friends Kevin. Bring on the Fall.

In Northwest Montana, it’s a release from the blazing heat of summer with it’s crisp night air, and here Autumn is all too short, as one day is can be 90 degrees and the next we get frost warnings. The garden is struggling to bring itself to fruition before the freeze barrels in. The trees are ablaze with color, and the geese fly south. The bright yellow school buses take to the road once more and the smell of smoke from bonfires filters through the air as folks clean up their yards and gardens. The sound of chainsaws accompanies us as we get on with our daily chores, as menfolk fill their sheds with wood preparing for a long winter which looms just around the corner. We take walks in the balmy Indian summer air which give us much needed exercise. It is a short release here in the Northwest, and we treasure each day as the temperatures are neither too hot or too cold, and we prepare for the long dark winter days ahead, looking forward to Halloween, Thanksgiving, school plays, and then finally Christmas and the brilliant but freezing days of winter.

I live in Southern California, so autumn does not bring the same changes here that it does in most other parts of our country. Still, the days do get cooler and shorter, deciduous trees do lose their leaves, football starts, and the holidays creep closer. The thing I like best about autumn is getting back to a regular routine. Since I am a third grade teacher, that means school! New students, a chance to use all I have learned about teaching over the summer, and time again spent with my teacher friends. This year I have a marvelous class, so I am happy and energized!

What I love the most about Autumn is saying goodbye to the summer humidity and insects, especially aphids. I had my yearly “Goodbye to Summer” celebration last night: Clear sky, mostly a full moon, lots of stars to celebrate with, and a glass of wine. The only time I got choked up and needed Kleenex was when I said goodbye to the bugs and aphids. Tears streaming down my face, I said “Goodbye aphids, goodbye sweat bugs, good riddance, Chiggers!

We’ll take a day and drive down to Nashville in Brown County Indiana. We’ll go through all the little shops to find treasures. We’ll look around at what’s changed, see if there are new stores and feel relived that long time favorites are still there. We’ll stop at the Nut House for various variety of warm nuts in little white sacks, go to the ice cream shop and get some persimmon ice cream. Hubby will probably need to get some fresh made fudge. Then over to the Nashville House (oldtimey general store) to buy many pint jars of their famous apple butter https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTXhxblbyH414wpk0nw2iMMcESw2-PWeogw8aaTzJ2raNO8xmLF. Then decide on a place to eat….maybe at the Hob Knob or the Artist Colony or back to the Nashville House where they serve their fried biscuits in heaping baskets to eat with the apple butter. We’ll head back home with all the beautiful trees and hills surrounding us and feel satisfied that we’ve made our yearly pilgrimage.

No humidity and pumpkins. Especially baking pumpkins. No need to slice and dice, just pop the whole sugar pumpkin in a slow oven until it looks like a basketball with a leak….slightly deflated. Then knock off the stem, pull back the skin enough to be able to spoon out the seeds, then pull off the rest of the skin. The soft pumpkin inside is ready to scoop out and use in your favorite recipes. Or freeze some in ice cube trays for frozen smoothies. Yum yum. The seeds can be dried in a slow oven for a healthy snack. Double yum yum.

My favorite thing about Autumn is the slowing down of our lives; the steadying of school schedules and ending of a fast paced summer where we try to get all the ‘fun’ in for the whole year. We had to leave New England 35 years ago for a warmer climate. Its taken some years not to focus on all the wonderful New England fall attributes. We’re still finding new ways to appreciate fall in Florida. When my middle son went to college he didn’t adjust well to being away from home and came home every weekend for 2 yrs. The school was a little over an hour drive away so I picked him up every friday and brought him back sunday. I didn’t mind because it was beautiful country to drive thru and we had great discussions. We drove by a pick-your-own orchard, so every sunday we’d pick 2 shopping bags of apples, I took one home and the other went with him to his very appreciative dorm mates. I have wonderful memories of those apple picking sundays and he finally adjusted to college.

I hold fast to my childhood memories of Michigan in autumn. Warm, lazy daylight with light wind separating the colorful leaves from their branches. As a child, it was mesmerizing to following these yellow, orange and red leaves float until they touched the ground, seeming to bask in the sun. Cool and cooler evenings with the sun setting earlier brought our cedar smelling quilts out from their trunks to be placed on our beds. Fall weather spurred our horses to grow their winter coats. With the cool air their energy seemed to radiate the minute you set yourself into the saddle. Off we’d fly, my horse and I …..just like the leaves!

If I have to be honest, I have to say as the days start to get shorter, I am so sad. I so love spring and summer. Despite the beautiful fall leaves, the delightful cooler evenings, I will take heat, humidity, lots of bring sunshine and light any day over fall.

Autumn is “it” for me! Putting the gardens to bed only means the beginning of planning for next year. The weather is gorgeous, we can make snow plans without the need to actually get out there and shovel, the wood stoves can be run, ovens can go ahead and heat up the house for glorious baking and roasting…it goes on and on!

Everything! The apples, pumpkins, COLLARD greens, the changing leaves, but most of all the cool crisp air. GA is one hot and humid place, but I truly celebrate when we have that first cold morning. I can’t wait.

I love the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase for the championship. I love Halloween. I love college football. I love baking apple pies, and crocheting sweaters and hats and scarves mittens for everyone. But fall and winter are not my favorites- I’m a spring and summer kid and the shorter days and cooling temperatures make me a little sad. I’m glad I live in TN with our short, mild winters!!
Enid says
I like autumn because it’s time to think about where to travel during winter.
Nancy says
Hands down, apple pie. My present Cuisinart (the CL7, I believe) is over 30 years old and has been quite the workhorse, but has seen better days. I use it to make my perfect crusts. Kevin, I LOVE your blog and you have inspired me to try so many new things. Thank you!!

I love all the seasons but Autumn is my favorite. I can still can tomatoes from the garden and get some apple picking in to can as well. It is warm still during the day but the nights are wonderful for sleeping. When we go on hikes, that fall smell of the leaves turning is in the air, mixing with the lingering pine. Corn mazes are about with pumpkins to purchase and hot cider and apple cider donuts to imbibe in. I also love the clothes, plaids and sweaters and scarves and hats, all in browns, golds, rusts, greens of autumn colors. Mother Earth is winding down for a long sleep so she can wake up and do it all again next year.

Eight is my favorite number! (Hope I got 888 :-))I love Autumn; it is my very favorite season. I thoroughly enjoy being able to “watch” Nature perform its perfection. The leaves, winds, branches, seeds, bulbs, rain, and a little fog choreograph the perfect dance for the beginning of winter. I love picking the three varieties of Gravenstein apples in my little orchard and canning into whatever-comes-to-mind.

I love the colorful leaves in autumn – they are so amazing. But the thing that restores my soul is taking a walk & crunching through the dry leaves – nothing better!

Thanks Kevin! By the way I am so grateful for your vinegar for pathways post! It works like a gem! The best part about fall is Butternut squash. We grow it every year and you know it’s fall when you’re finally eating that delicious butternutty goodness. I have an amazing butternut soup recipe using wild rice, corn and your favorite sausage. Let me know if you’d like me to share it because it’s everyone’s favorite once they try it.

Autumn, is it Autumn already???
Living in Las Vegas in this desert, we’re still seeing temperatures of 90-100 degrees daily!
Oh, for the leaves to change, the days to become shorter and not so hot, the evenings to be cooler than the days, leaves to fall because it’s time for that-not just because they’ve shriveled up and died and fallen off in self-defense!
What a lovely place it must be to live where you see the seasons change and can feel the nip in the air! The closest thing to that here is when the temperature reaches 70 degrees and the wind blows off the desert sand dunes!!!
But, God is good and the summer only lasts 8 months a year, so we know we’ll have pleasant days and nights for a short while at least!!
Tracy says
The geese have started to arrive for the winter. The doves are emptying my feeders daily. I have seen fall arrive in the stores and the scarecrows are smiling. I am excited to try some new pumpkin painting, The pumpkins have not yet arrived LOL. The spiders are in a frantic SCURRY, webs to be made!! Enjoy the fall colors everyone. Just a thought, freeze some pumpkin creamer for mid summer treat.
Shannon F says

It’s a little melancholy for me – I guess from memories of the end of Summer and going back to school. But I do love the cooler weather and beautiful leaves (not raking, though!). I like to cook more and sleep with the windows open!!

I’ve lived in New England my whole life..I love Fall Trees changing colors, the Geese head South,Skunks are out.. But the 3rd week of August is way too early for leaves to start falling and the Geese to head South..Here it is the 10th of Sept..I’ve done some freezing of veggies. I think it’s going to be a long cold Winter, they say worse than last winter…My old bones don’t like freezing weather..But Wood Stove and Pellet stove are nice.. If you don’t have to go out in the weather, but sometimes you have to.. But enjoy this weather while we can..
Jamie B. says
I love those days when it can’t decide if it’s summer or autumn yet. The sun shines and the air feels warm against your skin but then every so often a light breeze blows by and it feels so refreshing and cool. That’s what I love most about Autumn.
Vicki says
Fall produce, cool nights for sleeping, the change of leaves, and lots of apples.

Good Lord ! Kevin ,almost a thousand people wrote in hopes of winning the food processor, you are certainly popular !
To be honest I am very unhappy to see Fall arriving. Here in Montreal we had no summer, half the time It felt like spring never stopped, giving summer a chance, and now we are back in the cold and of course winter is never far behind, snow and cold for six months. Oh how I long for the hot and humid months( that we never had this year) and lots of flowers swaying in the warm breeze, butterflies and bees checking out the nectar, cooking outdoors, and all the things, especially the things I couldn’t do this year, lying on my swing with a book and enjoying the warmth.well no use bellyaching, the autumn colours are on their way , I have four maples in my yard and soon they will be red and orange and gold and some some brown too. And soon we will be driving to my daughter’s place in Mass, U.S., four and a half hours of feast for the eyes !
So it’ snot all so bad.
By the way congratulations to Susan on winning the food processor, make good use of it. I never read your post, I’ll try and look it up, will be difficult finding it in 912 posts.
Bye now have a great season !
