EVER WONDER WHERE, exactly, your food comes from? I found lots of answers in Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma. In this engrossing New York Times bestseller, the author traces the soil-to-plate journey of four different meals: one from McDonald’s; one from Whole Foods; another from an off-the-grid and marvelously-sustainable polyculture farm in Virginia, and finally, one that Pollan managed to hunt and gather for himself.
I’ve purchased three copies of this eye-opening (and for me, life-changing) book to give away. Would you like a chance to win one?
To enter this random drawing, I need you to do these two, very simple things:
First, subscribe (if you haven’t already) to my weekly email newsletter. Subscribing is both easy and SPAM-free.
Next, in the comments field below, tell me what you are reading these days, or, simply mention your favorite book or favorite author. (If you are feeling shy, simply say “hello.”)
Be sure to leave at least part of your email address at the end of your comment, so that I can easily verify that you’ve subscribed to my newsletter.
Not required, just appreciated: click the “like” button below, and join A Garden for the House on Facebook.
Subscribe and comment soon, for this drawing ends Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at 11:59 PM. I’ll use the gadget at Random.org to select three winners.

I think my forever favorite book is The World According to Garp by John Irving…I also love a somewhat obscure book, Little America by Rob Swigert. Bet no one had heard of that, but it's a wonderful book. Also,A Winter's Tale by Mark Halpern (which has some regional interest, too.) Right now I'm reading Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo…

I love reading gardening books for inspiration, although when I need a good laugh, very few authors beat David Sedaris. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of Pollan's book! (krstrpp at hotmail dot com)

Kevin, One of my all time favorites is “Of Human Bondage” by Somerset Maugham. (andley)
Also, what is the select profile about?
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Cynthia – I loved “Of Human Bondage,” too.
“Select Profile” simply indicates how you wish to comment; if you already have a google account, your name shows up automatically, and in blue, clickable type. Otherwise you comment just as you did — by selecting “Name.” I found this easier than making people register before they could post a comment.

I love to read and always have a book at hand. I read all sorts of things, but favorite genres are mysteries (I like cozies best) and paranormal romances. I also collect cookbooks. Right now I'm reading Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck. It's the first of her Donut Shop Mystery series…with recipes.
