1960s Pop-Rock Quiz!

BY Kevin Lee Jacobs | March 27, 2013 95 Comments

Last updated on April 2nd, 2013

BLAME IT ON HBO’S airing of “Phil Spector” last Sunday, but I’ve had “oldies” pop songs playing in my head all week. So please forgive me for writing the following multiple-choice quiz, which deals not with Lady Gaga, but with her musical ancestors:

Musical ancestors…like these guys…

And this 15-year-old girl, who wrote and recorded a song that was banned at many radio stations in 1967…

And these handsome dudes.

To take the quiz, simply click the button below. No matter how you score, I’ll automatically enter you in a random drawing to win a spaetzle-making gadget. Three of you can win.

Winners and correct answers will be announced on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. So be sure to check back!

How’d you do? Please feel free to post your score — or any thoughts you have — in the comments field below. And if you like the occasional quizzes at A Garden for the House, by all means click the “Like” button!

Confession: I wrote this quiz late last night. It is filled with grammatical errors. Please don’t shoot me.

60%. Ok score I guess for a quiz about the 60’s. Monkees was one of my first albums and i saw Tony Orlando in concert when I was in my teens. I wish I could tell which ones I got right. Made me laugh on the one question,.. butter, cream, milk, LOL.

I do have rock credits, despite only 55%! I knew Credence Clearwater members when they were still the Golliwogs, and Appaloosa after they went into obscurity. Otherwise I am more of a classical gal.

    March 31, 2013 at 11:05 am

65%! Ugh! And I was a teen in the 60’s but I do know I have a poor memory. Plus, although I was a huge Beatles fan (Paul was “my guy” and Ringo was my best friend’s “guy”), I spent more time outside, playing sports in high school, and going down the shore than I did listening to music. Sure hope you grade on a curve or I am in hot water with my folks!!!

Well, since the score didn’t “matter” for the drawing, I took it as an “open book” quiz (i.e. Googled things I didn’t know) but even so couldn’t find some answers and got 95%. About half of it I just *knew* for sure and the other half, pretty clueless about (hence the Googling.) But it was fun, though — love your giveaways and got all excited about the spaetzle maker after your previous spaetzle post, so keeping my fingers crossed that your random number generator finally generates *my* number. Love your site!

Apparently a pretty common score of 60%. Wonder if we missed the same ones. While I graduated high school in 1970 (also nice to see so many posting are my generation) my dad allowed ONLY classical music in the house and my best girlfriend was in the same position. The first time I ever heard any Beetles music is when I managed to get to the theater and see “Hard Day’s Night”…
I would love to have a Spaetzel making device. Then I could put the piece back in the bottom of my pressure canner and know I am making them the right size (the holes just looked closer than a colander. )

Love your photos and redo of the home and gardens. M ywonderful mother-in-law taught me how to make spaetzles back in the 50s…we mixed and batch and just cut a portion off the edge of the mixing bowl into boiling, salted water…served usually with pork roast and gravy. I would have missed a lot of them without the multiple choice format, but most were pretty easy with it. 🙂 I know you said you had typos, and I’m guessing the question about who did “Wild Thing” in the plural was one of them. I always called my son Wild Thing, and would sing the first part of the song to him sometimes because he did, and continues to, make my “heart sing!”
