I KNOW…it’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is already here. Are you cooking for the occasion? And if so, what are you making?
Please tell us your holiday menu in the comments field below. This way we can all be together — in spirit at least — for Thanksgiving.

I'm going to my Mom's for TG, but I'm contributing a side dish: tossed green salad with walnuts, dried cranberries, and balsamic vinaigrette.

My menu?
Butternut squash soup (your recipe, Kevin!)
Turkey with sausage stuffing
Garlic-smashed potatoes
Green bean casserole with Durkee Onions Rings (old-fashioned and probably horrid, but we all like it)
Creamed pearl onions
Salad (maybe I'll copy Eric's)
Assorted desserts that friends and relatives bring
My favorite part of hosting Thanksgiving dinner is that I don't have to cook for a week after.

I plan on serving a traditional TG dinner minus the pork ….
Terry says
I haven't had to cook a whole TG meal in a couple of years and since my oven still is not working, this is the plan:
*turkey – cooked in my Rival roaster
*stuffing – celery, onion, dried cranberries, pecans, poultry seasoning – cooked in crockpot
*sweet potatoes
*mashed white potatoes
*turkey gravy
*homemade cranberry sauce
*plain jello – they always want this even after they grew up:)
*peas
might go to my Mom's while she is out of town and bake some pies!
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Eric – you are a good son. The salad sounds yummy.
Yolanda – I know what you mean about the green bean dish…I grew up on it!
Sonja – now, that's very interesting. I've never considered pork for TG. But it must be part of the traditional feast for others.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Terry – sounds delicious…I suspect the crockpot stuffing will be fab! And I prefer plain jello, too.
Speaking of which…Does anyone recall that 70s “thing” called “Ambrosia?” This was jello mixed with various oddities, such as mandarin orange slices, marshmallows, and dried coconut flakes. It was served at all my family get-togethers. I hated it!
Terry says
I remember Ambrosia we add whipped cream into the mix, I love it but I am outnumbered in the immediate family.

At the risk of quoting an old joke, I'm making RESERVATIONS for Thanksgiving. Kozel's makes the best turkey anywhere.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Charlotte – What? No clean-up? That's not fair!

Tofurkey!!!!

We're going non-traditional this year. It's only the 2 of us, so I'm making BBQ pulled pork sandwichs(his idea) and lots of dips and snacks… We'll just pig out all day.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Lisa – I absolutely love Tofurkey. (For the uninitiated, Tofurkey is a beautifully seasoned tofu-loaf that you roast and serve with gravy, cranberry relish, etc. It's a great vegetarian alternative to regularly roast turkey.)
Erin – Regarding BBQ pulled-pork sandwiches (on really good, crusty bread I hope), sounds good to me! After all, it's a day to be thankful, not necessarily one to spend slaving over a hot stove. Have fun!
Ann Woods says
We always get a fresh Turkey from our favorite local market. With that, I will make the cornbread stuffing that has been made each Thanksgiving since 1943. Of course we will have white mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, baked sweet potatoes, whole green beans, sparkling cider, wine, sparkling water, coffee, pies and pumping trifle.
There are only 5 of us this year.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Ann Woods – Better plan on 6 for dinner…
Seriously, I'd love to hear more about your cornbread stuffing. Would you mind sharing your recipe with us? (And if the recipe is kept under lock and key, I completely understand.)
Sonja says
Lol Kevin … Here in Southeastern NC they serve ham for any occasion … The weather forecast is glorious and I just may deep fry that turkey.. Idk yet … Also it's peak deer season here as well and that equals some delicious deer hash …
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Sonja – Would you believe I've never tried deep-fried turkey? I've heard it's divine.
Arianne377 says
I will be more than glad to share the cornbread stuffing recipe in the morning. It's upstairs still in the drawer. When I get it out to start preparing, I will post it.
I made the cornbread today as it has to be left out for a day to stale. This is the old fashioned recipe from the 'old' Good Housekeeping cook book. I will also post that recipe.
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Ann – wonderful. I look forward to reading it.
