What’s Your Favorite Winter Beverage?

WHEN THE WEATHER TURNS COLD, what soul-warming beverage do you turn to? Old-fashioned hot chocolate? Mulled wine? Spiced cider? (Anyone have a recipe for Wassail?) In the comments field below, tell me your favorite winter brew, and how you make it.

    Southern Comfort straight from the bottle. Seriously. I also like hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and mulled wine. I recently discovered Ipocras. I really like the White Ipocras from Johnson Estate Winery (NY). I just warm it up and drink. Yum!

    Well, speaking from my own experience (albeit 30 years ago), straight from the bottle is the only way to enjoy Southern Comfort. Janis Joplin liked it, too!

    Getting through the long winter can be challenging, so I cozy up with a strong cup o' joe diluted with some good old Baileys Irish Cream. It doesn't make the blahs of winter go away any quicker, but it does make you feel likes it's Irish Spring. Cheers!

    I don't like wine particularly, but I am a big fan of Glühwein! Living in Germany back when I was a teenager opened me up to this delicious beverage… I might have to make some this winter…. mmm.
    Other than that, mulled apple cider with a bit more clove added to it is one of my favorites.
    I've been seeing a lot of the old fashioned hot chocolate being posted around my daily blogroll's… I just might have to try out YOURS too!
    [I need to get away from that “garbage” hot cocoa sold in the stores…]

    Pamdemonium – drink that spiked coffee in front of a window garden filled with flowering shamrock (Oxalis) and you'll REALLY be in Irish-spring-heaven!

    Donna B. – I looked up Glühwein, and it does sound delicious. In your German experience, was rum or some other liqueur added to the wine?

    I remember it burned slightly after drinking. Must've been the rum that burned… [oh so sweetly!] But I believe it was also made with Red Wine.

    Try this recipe for Hot Buttered Rum-I make a batch and give them as gifts!
    Hot Buttered Rum Concentrate
    1 pound unsalted butter, softened
    1 pound dark brown sugar
    1 pound confectioners sugar
    1 TBS freshly grated nutmeg
    2 TBS ground cinnamon
    1 quart good quality vanilla ice cream
    Thoroughly cream butter,sugars, cinnamon,nutmeg. Whip creamed mixture into ice cream until well blended. Pack into small plastic containers and freeze.
    Give with instructions to mix 1-2 TBS concentrate with a jigger of rum and fill cup with hot water. Cheers!
