I LOVE MY CHARLOTTE MOLD. I use it for souffles, timbales (including this one), and molded French desserts (like this one). If you like to cook, you should probably add this nifty gadget to your own kitchen-arsenal. And that’s why I’ve purchased three 8-cup-capacity Charlotte molds to give away. For a chance to win one, just tell me what you are doing for Valentine’s Day:
Perhaps, on February 14,Β you will honor Cupid by eating a box of chocolates. For breakfast.
Or, perhaps you will enjoy a romantic dinner for two.
Or maybe, just maybe, you will spend the evening watching romantic movies. Mind if I suggest a few?
Choose “Love Story” if you like sentimental 70s flicks which feature Ryan O’Neal and Ali McGraw.
Choose “Now Voyager” if you like Bette Davis. And Paul Henreid. And a very romantic scene involving a pair of cigarettes.
Choose “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”Β if you like romantic comedies involving gas-powered gardening tools.
Whatever you plan to do, make, eat or see on Valentine’s Day, mention it in the comments field below, and I’ll automatically enter you in the Charlotte-mold-giveaway.Β I’ll use the little number gadget at Random (dot) org to select 3 winners.
Winners names will be announced on Friday, February 15, 2013 so be sure to check back!

My dear hubby and I will probably start off the afternoon minding our 5 month old grandson, Malcolm. For dinner, I have planned a meal of filet mignon, scalloped potatoes and asparagus with a delicate shallot-infused butter sauce. For dessert? I think strawberries stuffed with cheesecake filling. I get to choose the movie that night, so I think it will be “Leap Year” which has such wonderful scenery of Ireland! Thank you very much for your blog – I follow it faithfully.

I’m baking heart shaped cookies for the physicians and fellows I work with. Our area has some incredible chocolatiers, and we’re mailing special chocolates to our children living in different areas of the US. We have so much to celebrate!

Hope the two of you have a great day.

DH and I will create a meal and decorate our house for a romantic evening. We like to set our table, with candles, nice dishes and wine.

My husband and I will both be working, so I will “cheat” on making a lovely Valentine’s day dinner to share with him. I will make a salad from organic greens and I will indulge in the unusual treat of a ready to cook specialty from a local gourmet grocer that I can just throw in the oven or into a pan. That way we can both enjoy a nice meal without spending the evening cooking or cleaning. I can’t say what we will have because it will depend on what looks good when I go there, right after work on V day. I will undoubtedly find some tempting dessert we can share too.
Deanna says

I work part-time in a homeless shelter in St.Paul MN and am scheduled to work on Valentine’s Day evening. I have a few ideas to help make the day extra special for everyone. So far, they are to bring flowers in a bright red vase decorated with multi-colored heart sticker for our main desk, put up red heart cutout throughout the room each with a silly joke written on it (Q: What did the French chef give his sweetie for Valentine’s Day? A: A hug and a quiche!), show the movie “Midnight in Paris” (we show a movie every night) and serve slices of my homemade banana chocolate chip bread to everyone. The other staff will participate, too, all trying to bring some normalcy for a few hours to folks who’s lives are not normal.
Gretchen Uno says
I am 75 years old. I will sit back in my chair, close my eyes and remember all the suitors I had many years ago. I will remember all the flowers, candy and cards I received from some wonderful young men but most of all, I will remember the flowers that my husband gave me one particular Valentines day. He stuffed them in a Mason jar, wraped a red ribbon around it and they were waiting for me when I got home from work. We are all so grateful that he will make a full recovery from what was a dangerous-to-life-and-limb infection. He nearly lost his leg, not to mention the foot and toes. So, a little cooking and cleaning is no big price for having my father alive and well on Valentine’s day, and every other day.

The other day my husband and I were in the grocery store. In the produce department there were numerous large red vases filled w/ flowers, yes, mostly roses. I picked up a vase w/two red roses and lots of greenery, I sniffed one rose, then held the vase so he could smell the other, while I said “Happy Valentines Day!” He got a big smile and responded, “Same to you!” He’s used to my off the cuff comments and actions after 20 years together. One year for his birthday I gave him a large can of Watkins pepper and told him he was/is “the spice in my life.”
God bless you all on Valentine’s Day, and every day leading up to it, and many more after it.

Hi Kevin, Lily and friend,
I hope you are all warm and toasty and have electricity, although you seem to be in great shape even if the electricity goes out! Something wonderful about the personality of an old, well worn home. Our daughter and her family live in 150 year old home and even when drafty, it is still filled with lots of love!
I will be doing the same thing I have done for the past 30 years and that is working in my sister’s flower shop as Valentines Day is one of the busiest days for florists and they always need extra hands on that holiday. So much fun as that is the only day I work all year, but you see some of the same customers each year and catch up on their lives and children and happenings. So then we are tired but stay up to visit with each other until it’s time to go back to work the next day. Makes you grateful for family as we have helped one another over the years. Enjoy your Valentines with your family.

When the Tropical Storm Irene came through New England in August of 2011, my husband and I knew we were doomed. We live next to the Pemigewasset River in NH. Our two businesses were flooded (lodging and picture framing, every building on our property) and we had to move out of our home for 37 days. Our wonderful friends from NY had a second home they were retiring to and opened their doors and hearts to us, our dogs, and 94 year old mom. They gave us their new home to live in while we renovated ours. This same friend then came to NH and helped us renovate our lodging business! Those same friends are now retired and we will be spending dinner here at our house with them. Owning a lodge doesn’t always allow you the freedom to leave so we are going to have Bill and Myra join us for Thai takeout and an evening of fun and friendship. Happy Valentine’s Day to you!!!!!
Marye D says
On Valentine’s Day I will be making a cherry dessert for my honey. Maybe cobbler or a cheesecake. The love bug will hit the household with special messages on mirrors and little notes in lunches. Hi Kevin–
Because of The Blizzard, my husband will be in DC a day later than planned (having to leave 2 days later than planned!), and won’t be back here in Maine until Friday–which, now that I think of it, is a better day to celebrate anyway, especially since the whole next week is vacation and my middle-schoolers will have to get along without me!! That’s enough of a reason to celebrate right there–everything else is frosting!

Hi Kevin,
I am making your spinach and ham timbale, again! Let me explain…
This past Saturday (the 9th) I made your spinach and ham timbale for some guests. My husband, who won’t touch the green stuff, had seconds –I suspected because of the ham. However, this morning, when we I asked him what he wanted for Valentine’s day dinner (we never go out on V-day) he requested your spinach and ham timbale! I was floored! “But you don’t like spinach”, I said. “I like ‘this’ spinach, and I’ll even watch Downton Abbey with you” was his reply.
So, you see, you have single handedly accomplished what I have been trying to do for more than 20 years! Thank you for this elegant, tasty recipe!
Lindsay says
My partner and I will be celebrating our 13th Valentine’s Day together. I make an amazing vegetarian cheesy potato mushroom soup – can’t get enough of this soup. Anyway, I plan on making a roaring fire, and surprising my partner with an indoor picnic of potato soup, some crusty bread (with a bit of butter of course), and a homemade banana and blueberry streusel coffee cake. It’s her favorite. π Then we’re going to bust out a game of Scrabble. She always keeps me on my toes, and our game scores are so close we often tie in tournaments! Spending as much quality time together as possible is the most romantic thing I can imagine. We’re truly in love, so anything we do together is a good thing.

Oh, and I cooked dinner(you call it ‘supper’ in the states?) consisting of a potato mash(potatoes from our garden) seasoned with masala sauce from last nights ‘dinner’ , gluten free sausages and green, sweet peas with a side of fresh lettuce.
Thanks Kevin.

I just got through making a ricotta cheesecake to take to my daughter’s college tomorrow. My husband and I will be traveling 7 hours to get there and will celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow with her. She hasn’t tried my ricotta cheesecake yet but loves it when we go out…hope it measures up to the restaurant version..by the way, I have finally figured out how to save all of your newsletters on my computer..I am thrilled..I now have my own “Garden for the House” library! Thank you so much..Happy Valentine’s Day.
