I LOVE MY 7-CUP FOOD PROCESSOR so much that I purchased an extra one to give away. Who’d like to win this indispensable kitchen gadget in a random drawing?Up for grabs is a brand new Cuisinart DLC-10S Pro Classic 7-Cup Food Processor. This model is much nicer than my 10-year-old (and now-discontinued) Cuisinart.
I use my food processor to achieve hundreds of delicious dishes in a fraction of the usual time. For instance:
French Onion Soup (Soupe à l’oignon gratinée). In a matter of seconds, the food processor thinly slices the onions for this beautiful brew.
Three Minute Mayonnaise . The Cuisinart instantly turns eggs, oil, and lemon into the most delicious sauce on earth.
Pate Brisee. To achieve a tender, flaky crust, I dump butter, flour, and a bit of ice-water in the processor. Ten seconds later, I have the dough.
English Cream Scones. Sure, you could mix these up by hand. But why should you? The food processor will accomplish the job before you can say “English Cream Scones.”
Garlic Scape Pesto. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried this heavenly stuff. And the processor will turn it out for you in less than one minute.
To enter this random drawing, just do these two ridiculously-easy things:
First, sign up — if you haven’t already — for my weekly email newsletter.
Next, post a comment in the comments-field below. You can say anything you’d like. Feeling shy? Just tell me the name of your favorite dessert.
Not required, but appreciated: Click the “like” button below.
Enter soon! This drawing expires at 11:59PM EST on Thursday, February 28, 2013.
As always, I’ll use the number-gadget at Random.org to select a winner. The winner’s name will be announced on March 1. So be sure to check back!
Already have a working food processor? Enter the drawing anyway. You can always give the machine to someone who is just learning to cook.

Tammy says
Kevin, the title of this post made me laugh. 24 years ago, when my husband and I met, we made a pact that we would never give each other appliances for birthdays or Christmas. We said at the time that if we need an appliance, we’ll get one, but not as an easy gift to the other. Months ago I told my husband I wanted a food processor for Christmas, since it had been a decade since our last food processor died. He looked so stricken! No can do, he said. Oh well, one day I’ll just have to go get one.
Deena says
Thank you for all the inspiration. Have a great weekend.
ArtistryFarm says
Here in OH we’re under solid ice but I don’t mind: goats are fresh and babies are to be fed! Concerning pesto, I make it from just about anything and everything…try wild garlic mustard pesto, or sage pesto…wow!

Ooh, I would love to win one of these. I have a small one that I use, but it takes me longer and makes for a messy process. If I won this I wouldn’t have to wait every Christmas for the possibility of getting one from Santa or wait to get married and register for it. Considering that some say Santa may not exist and I am not even engaged yet, my best chace of getting this food processor would be to win it. My teacher’s salary has kept me from purchasing one already.
Thanks for this chance!!!!
Debby says
Welcome to sunny Florida, I’m glad you’re getting some of our best weather, spring is an awesome time to visit! I wish I could load you up with plants to take home. My food processor took a dive when I made hummus last month… I’m surviving with a mini chopper for now.

Lately I’ve been obsessed with pears….I don’t know if this is a particularly good year for pears (from the Southern Hemisphere, I presume, since it is February?), or if it is just a weird craving. Bartlett, Bosc, Asian…doesn’t matter—I’ll eat ’em all!

Erin says
I would LOVE a food processor. Your scones look so good, I think processor or not, I need to make those this weekend!!
I have totally changed my diet. My cholesterol was high and I found out last spring that I have a heart defect, so high cholesterol and BP is bad for me. When I saw my cholesterol results, I really felt that my diet was going to kill me. So I changed it. It was hard, but necessary. I now love eating this way, I went for my ECG yesterday, so today I popped into the drug store to take my BP. It is down from 145 over 95 to 124 over 76. It’s working!! I am learning to cook a whole new way and treat food as my friend. I am using veggies and fruit I’ve never had before. Making soups and cooking everything from scratch. I tore up my yard and planted vegetable gardens. Long story, I know. Suffice it to say, I would LOVE a food processor.

I am of the age where I have had many of my small appliances for many, many years. My electric can opened recently died and I decided to replace it with a high quality manual can opener. I love it and it works whether there is a power failure or not. And I fear that my old food processor is about to go the way the electric can opener did…………..DIE. And it is just easier to use an electric one than to always do it yourself. So I am in the market for a new food processor. Out of need. Maybe I won’t have to buy one. Maybe I will win it. Thanks if I do. 😉

I currently have 12 milk jug “gardens” sitting along my fence in the snow. As soon as I can plant sweet peas that have been soaking overnight and duct tape the opening closed, #13 will be joining the others. Your wonderful cousin, Julie B. here in Portland, suggested I look at your website and now I look forward to receiving your blog posts every week. I have adopted so many of your recipes — we’re making popovers this morning — and the instructions are always so clearly presented. We don’t usually have dessert at our house but my husband is always delighted when I make homemade brownies with frozen yogurt — no fancy additions in the brownies like cream cheese or extra whole chocolate chips. Just plain or maybe with walnuts — simple, dense, chewy and sinful. A food processor is a wonderful idea for a contest — please put my name in the hat too along with all these other excited readers of your excellent articles and inspiring suggestions. I’ve started the winter sowing seeds and am in the process of building the window garden for my violets and hyacinth and narcissus bulbs that are blooming. Keep up the thoughtful suggestions and delicious recipes — you spread a lot of love through your blog!
Marcianne says

Add any sliced fruit, nuts whatever.\
Chill overnight and enjoy. 😉

My favorite dessert? Just about anything and everything! However my husband was diagnosed with diabetes over a year ago and we have cut down on sweets. I do remember my mother’s pecan pie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our food processor went to visit our son and never returned. We do ask for a visit every now and then, but most of the time we just do without. My husband is the real cook in our family. He has a definite knack for it. I cooked for the first 30 yrs of our marriage and now (since he has retired) he has been cooking for the last 14 years. It would be real sweet if he could have a new processor, he deserves it. We cannot afford to buy one other things are more important to survival. Thanks.

Kevin, I love your blog. You offer so much of yourself in it. We all appreciate your time and attention necessary to bring us such great recipes, superior photographs, a wonderful garden design and tips on everything. You are the male Martha Stewart. I am winter-sowing seeds, per your direction. I have planted fourteen heirloom vegetables, plus avocado, date seeds (date palms?), and Brown Asian Pears, Daisies and Zinnias. They are coming up beautifully here in eastern NC, zone 7. We have mild winters. Thanks for bringing winter-sowing to my attention. I would love to win a 7-cup Cuisinart Food Processor, if the powers-that-be allow. Spring is springing…
Pat Travis says

I modify many recipes for myself, and I love learning how to make tasty dishes with fresh from the garden ingredients. As a Nutritional Therapist, I create tailored recipes for clients diets to support their health needs. I have a two cup mini food processor, now. I am finding the need for a larger processor to make larger quantities in my classes for clients. I enjoy making simple dressings with common ingredients for freshly steamed vegetables.
I’m glad you had the opportunity to get some sunshine. I hope it renewed you! ~ Kate

My hands are now arthritic and a processor is more valuable now because holding knives is difficult; cutting and chopping painful.

Hi Kevin,
Love your site; so much good information. I have spent hours this morning looking for a post from your site about preparing an area . . . prior to planting you had suggested that we put something on the soil that would kill all the weeds. Once the weeds were gone we could than plant. A friend had this article I am talking about on her Facebook page and that was how I found out about your site. I would love to read that article again and I can’t find it. If there is a way for you to see when I signed up for your newsletter, the article was posted just prior to that. Thanks for your help.

It would be fun to have a PIE dinner party where everyone is asked to bring a pie. The menu could be assigned or be a true pot luck. The pies could be savory or sweet, with crust or without, and elegant or rustic. Is this an original idea or has others thought or done this too?

favorite “dessert” right now is avocado pudding. Serious. I’m on a strict diet for my health so it’s one of my only options, but it really is yummo. Blend an avocado with some yogurt, ice, fresh ginger and lime, and a little sweetener or your choice. I guess it would appropriately be called an Indian lassi drink. Marvelously smooth and refreshing.

Hello, Kevin – Happy Almost Spring! My mother bought her first (and only) Cuisinart sometime back in the 80’s, and would well neigh marry the thing if such possibilities were legal … OK, maybe not “marry” it, but you get the point. She originally referred to it as a “very expensive cheese grater,” until she grew brave enough to use it to its full capacity; now, I don’t believe she could function without it. When my husband and I married and bought our first home, I was the proud recipient of my own Cuisinart (I have no idea how many cups it is, but it’s good-sized, and just the right size for most anything). Alas, mom’s “old reliable” is slowly beginning to fall apart, and it will be a sad day when she is finally forced to bid it adieu. She and I fully understand the passion for the machine that others and, obviously, you do, too. That you would purchase an “extra” one to give away is far beyond benevolent! Whether or not I am chosen in the random drawing, please know that I fully enjoy reading your newsletters, and wish you all the best in the beautiful upcoming months!
Nikki G says

Hope you visit Sanibel while here and collect some great sea shells to take back with you. My favorite desert is “Dream Cake” it’s a special recipe. My Mom was not the best cook, but when she made this she became a hero. Have fun and enjoy the warmth.

I love all of your tips, especially about starting seeds in milk jug mini greenhouses. Winning the 7 cup blender would be wonderful. I already make as much as I can from scratch, but that would be just heaven! Thank you so much for this blog. Hi Kevin,
I will try not to beg, nor
put you to the test;
I plead you consider
This damsel’s request –
(preparing our food is really quite a mess).
Six fingers I’m missing,
Along with one thumb,
From prepping and chopping
That really went wrong.
I really would like this
Cuisine d’ la art
Who knows what I will lose next-
I might fall apart!
And so it is thus,
That I fall on one knee,
Before you, the knight of slicing chivalry!
Please, Kevin, consider this grandmother’s plea-
And I will make you some cookies and send you some tea!

Elizabeth Usher says
Oh gosh, I have been yearning for a processor since moving out from my parents’ a couple years ago but haven’t been able to afford a nice one. I have a wimpy one, but it does not help me when I am trying to make one of my most favorite winter dishes, my grandma’s Hungarian Goulash, which needs some very finely chopped carrots, onions, and celery. Finely chopping carrots needs a good, reliable processor! I think I’d make the dish every two weeks instead of once a year if it didn’t require so much fine chopping by hand!
As for dessert- I have a special place reserved in my heart for cannolis! They have to be smooth, not too sweet, with a touch of lemon!

My food processor died just before my stand mixer did. The stand mixer is higher on the priority list for my families bread needs and necessitates penny pinching to afford so I’ve made do with graters and mandolines and mashers and blenders, but they just aren’t the same as a good food processor. They’re also much harder on the wrists and knuckles. I’d really appreciate winning one, thank you for the opportunity 🙂

Hello Kevin, I have tried the winter sowing this year. Here in Minden, LA most of the seeds have been up for a while..I have been opening the top of milk jugs during the day. More cold weather (30 degrees is too cold for me) on the way and I don’t like the chances they will make it until spring. Here’s hopeing.

Kevin, want a laugh? I’m still using the first and only food-processor I received as a birthday gift 27 years ago this coming May!!! It’s very small and just about everything we make in it has to be done a little at a time, makes for distress at Christmas when doing so much baking/cooking…so, needless to say, a larger food-processor has been on our list of “things we’d love to buy but can’t spend the money on”. 🙂
Dianne says

Learning to adjust to cooking at 7,000 ft has been interesting, challenging and often

I am 63 & became very ill a while ago. I have always been the cook, baker, housewife until this happened. I have CHF & a part of my heart died when I suffered an unknown heart attack. I have been teaching my beloved husband of 44 years how to take over my kitchen responsibilities; making the meals. We LOVE to make soups. If I could make his life a little easier as he learns how to cook & bake that would be great. I am home-bound and he still works, so I want you to know that your site keeps my spirits up. I feel like I know you; that’s they way you write… as if you were right here in the room with me. I have utilized a LOT of your ideas. I SO love the milk carton starter greenhouse idea! I am cutting toilet paper rolls in half, placing them in the milk cartons, filling them with soil-less soil & them putting the seeds in. I’ll see how that works. This way I can have my husband put those little rolls right in the garden. I LOVE all of your ideas, your violets & I covet your raised garden beds! thank you for being you and reaching so many like me who are stuck in the house.

I love to feed my friends and neighbours and use my very old and useful Cuisinart daily. I cannot imagine life without one and it makes my lengthy prep work into minutes. I had a restaurant for 15 years and did all the cooking myself using this same Cuisinart. I know it is living on borrowed time! Like you I make everything from raw and fresh ingredients and everybody is amazed that I do not spend all day in the kitchen [never more than 2 hours anyway]. Enjoy your brief break from the winter. Spring will be here sooooooon. Thank you for all your inspiration. I love to laugh when I read your blog.

I really have enjoyed the gorgeous photography, the step-by-step instructions, with photos, on how to create the wonderful items you share on your site. Yes, food processors are a wonderful asset to the kitchen, and Cuisinart is the best one produced. I cut all my veggies for soups in just a few minutes.
When you share recipes which have lower calories, etc., I grab them up. It would be wonderful if you could add the Weight Watchers “points” per serving for the thousands of us who are shedding pounds, but wish to enjoy great food in the process. Thank you!
