Photographer Andy Milford stopped by with his drone the other day. Would you like to see what a sparrow sees when it soars high above Clover Hill in early November?
Oh. Clover Hill is the name of my house. It’s an old house with far too-many rooftops!
The ancient lindens, maples, oaks, and other deciduous trees that dot my property are now at their dazzling best. I love the autumn palette of red, yellow, purple, black, orange, pink, and magenta!
Of course, green is a color, too. Pictured above is the yew-framed Boxwood Garden.
A closer view of the Boxwood Garden. The gold leaves at the left belong to a 100-year-old silver leaf maple (Acer saccharinum).
So how’s the foliage looking where you are? And how’s the autumn raking coming along?

Didn’t you used to have roses in your boxwood garden?
Kevin Lee Jacobs says
Hi Kathy – I lost a lot of roses over the past 2 winters. Those that remain are now dormant.

The boxwood gardens look spectacular, like a small castle garden. Hey, where is the garage? You cannot possibly live in NY without one , winters are tough !

Happy sparrow!

Hi Mary V – When we took out the asphalt parking lot behind the house (now the boxwood garden), we lost access to the tiny one-car garage. The garage is now my “potting shed.”

Before I could even try to gather leaves (I shred them) it snowed. Guess I’ll have to hope for a few days of thaw.

wow, gorgeous yard
Linda says
Absolutely gorgeous Kevin! I appreciate the fall colors as we do not see much of them in California.
Chris says
Alli, I feel your pain; I also got snow on top of leaves. Whoops!!

Santa Anna’s and recent fire stripped my trees at my house….I hope burned trees can recover.

Here in Minnesota we are under a light blanket of snow. The leaves have been down for a few weeks. We are having January weather – hoping for a light thaw to finish a few things in the gardens. Lovely photos!!

It’s so beautiful! Love the boxwood garden too! Wish you and Mr Fox a happy Thanksgiving

Lovely! Didn’t you say the boxwood garden replaced a parking lot? It’s really neat to see your land from above and think about the changes over time.
Jill Mackay says
No autumn leaves at this time in Australia Kevin and when it is they’re imported ones such as maples!!. However I love to see yours and love all your recipes. Thank you Kevin

Stunning. Thank you for sharing these pictures. They are beautiful. I moved from a place with hundreds of trees to a suburban house with one tree. I don’t miss the enormous clean up but I miss everything else including all of the birds.

w….o….w….. Gorgeous..you are very fortunate to live surrounded by such beauty! 🙂

Sorry about your roses. Mine all died to the ground this winter but came back from the roots. Of course the remaining ones would be dormant now, but I just couldn’t see them in any of the pictures, even when I squinted!

We got our first freeze on Friday or Saturday, so most of the trees are still green–a few wine-colored leaves on the crepe mrytle. I still have red and green tomatoes on the vine; will pick this week and let ripen over the winter. I still have okra fruit smaller than a fingernail! . Swiss chard, collards, and parsley are doing fine. Will plant viola this week, and then the garden is ready for winter!
Thank you for the photos, the colors are stunning, and the ABUNDANCE of color is marvelous.
Enjoy!

Very nice! Thank you

Thank you for sharing these lovely photos of your beautiful property in autumn. I, too, wonder how you deal with leaving a car outside in winter there. It must spend quite a bit of time buried in the snow. Maybe all of you are able to escape into your quiet world to hibernate like the black bears and not come out until spring. Happy Thanksgiving.

All I did was a google search for a spinach and fennel recipe. Lo and behold I discovered this wonder of a site!!!!!!! The gratin to be prepared for dinner, and after? Am looking forward to a delightful browse.
My gosh those remarkable drone pics. Yew-framed boxwood garden…yes please!
Am recently back from a trip to Europe. Colours that really took my breath away. Exquisite in the sunlight ..with a breeze the leaves dance. Enchanting.
Off to the Australian kitchen.
Cheers…am thrilled to have come across the blog.

Those pictures are great! I think it’s so much fun to see the view from the air, especially when it’s with a house/property that I’m already familiar with.
