Monster Bash 2015!

074BOO! Last Saturday, more than 40 costumed guests walked through our front door. The occasion? Our annual Halloween Monster Bash! I was a colonial gentleman who, after makeup (thanks Michael Laudati!), morphed into…oh, I don’t know…maybe David Cassidy, circa 1971?

A few scenes from the party:

042Barbara Bush Martha Washington (a/k/a Silver Fox)…

050Picasso (Barry Brown) and his portrait (Dough Cohen)…

060A pizza-eating rat (Neil Stevenson)…

041The Mad Hatter (Bob Woods)…

043Cruella DeVille (Loyita Woods)…

047

A private eye (Randall Schmidt) and Marie Antoinette (Lori Yorotsky)…

055A confederate soldier (Tina Lang) and a union soldier (Stephen Lang)…

056Who had a very important message!

057A punk-rocker (Ed Parran)…

052Bill Clinton (Gary Spielmann) , who performed a skit with…

065Gennifer Flowers (Wendy Powers Spielmann, seen here chatting with Picasso and his portrait).

068Also on hand were friends Anne Schomaker, Robert Bluman, and David Deutsch…

051And John Cooley as Zorro!

Many more guests arrived after I put my camera away. So I’ll add more photos as they come in. The evening concluded in the music room, with performances by David and Vicki Smith, John Cooley, Stephen Lang, and…

me and will halloween 2015 - Copy

Martha and me. I played piano and sang Bobby Pickett’s 1962 hit “The Monster Mash,” while guests (who are out of view, unfortunately!) sang back-up. I wish you could have heard the song, because we really rocked!

And what about your own Halloween night? Did you attend a party? Pass out candy to trick-or-treaters? Watch scary movies? I look forward to hearing from you!

Love ya –

Sat on front porch with family giving out candy. The kids are so precios to see. At our house kids take the candy and allowed 3 or 4 pieces. One toddler took one piece and when my daughter told him him could take more than that he got down on both knees to look over the options. A teenage couple were dressed as Minnie and Mickey. I said oh please sing the hot dog song…….he did. I said have extra chocolate for singing. 😉

Ginger London Broil on Brie Crostinis; Moroccan Chicken Satay; Scallion Sweet Potato Fritters; Tai Grilled Shrimp, plus assorted dips and a giant crudite platter. And lots and lots of spirits and wine!

This year’s costumes at your party look great. Love them.

We had rain all day on Halloween but there were still kids out there trick or treating with parents trailing behind with umbrellas. My kids chose scary costumes this year that they loved, so they would not be held back and were out there for quite awhile. Lucky for me my husband hit the streets and I got to sit on the covered front porch and hand out candy. We had less than our usual number , so lots of leftover candy to push off on coworkers.

We enjoyed little mermaids, dinosaurs, KISS, zombies – Pretty much neighborhood children and their parents waiting in the street with endless dogs which Sophie loved. I set a ‘boom box’ out under the shrubs with my eerie Halloween sounds – screeched owl, slamming doors, wind howling through the trees, cats screaming, werewolves howling and threatening to take over – the kids and adults love it and often come back a 2nd time. I have a collection of witches that I set and place around the front door and adults took pictures with their little ones – they each got 1 piece of candy from this health conscious witch – I turned off the porch light when the candy ran out and sat down with a nice hot cup of tea. Twas a wonderful evening also – oh I did have my black cape and purple witch hat on along with exaggerated makeup on as well. Now to plan Thanksgiving – your featured salad looks like a winner! Thank you, love the pictures – brings back wonderful memories.

Love seeing all the creative costumes! Looks like a great time was had by all! It was raining this year, so not too many kids. A group of us neighbors gather in one driveway/garage every year and party while the local children know to stop and walk away with a boat load of candy. The weather didn’t bother us adults, we went through almost four bottles of apple pie shots that I made! Delicious!

I went to a costume party where there were many excellent ideas. I was a scarecrow and my husband was an older version of David Hasselhoff from Bay Watch. Somehow he always ends up looking like Freddie Mercury to me! He could so pull that one off. I had fun dancing all night. I just wonder what a dancing scarecrow looks like!

We spent the day at Dollywood. Throughout the park little (and not so little) characterized people popped in and out of the groups of people. That day the sun shone warmly. The park displayed pumpkin people doing people things (painting, dog walking, playing leap frog…). Seven great gospel groups sang. There are bunches of rides for kids and the not so faint of heart. Oh and there were many spots to pick up a variety of fall foods. What a great Halloween day. And as far as trick or treaters at our place, there is only one so I gave her a goodie bag Friday. If you are ever in TN you may want to check out Dolly Parton park. It’s varied throughout the year. Christmas programs and decorations including 4 million lights-spectacular.

Rained most of the day in Chicago; but, was damp and not cold after dark. Wore my witches hat and makeup but not the rest of the costume, because I thought few would come. Had over 100 trick or treaters (about half of peak years). They and parents were very verbal about liking our decorations. Some kids scared, but nobody cried. Gave out fun sized chocolate, Marti Gras beads and two bushel baskets of stuffed toys. Yes, my sister-in-law lives in New Orleans and picked the items up along the parade route and sent them to us. The costumes were Cute and the kids well mannered.

It was a quiet night. Even though some kids moved in the neighborhood, the family was away for the weekend. What a shame there was no one to eat the fun size candy! I also enjoyed seeing pictures of my 3 year old pirate grandson and his 2 month old baby panda sister. A friend sent photos of his grandchildren..an enjoyable night thanks to email!! Oh, I also copied your pumpkin bread for my 3x5card recipe file! I trust its taste will surpass fun size Snickers!!

Love seeing your Halloween Party Guests dressed up every year! We spent Halloween with two of our young granddaughters at the annual Halloween Parade in Cooperstown NY. Every year young trick-or-treaters visit many of the local stores in Cooperstown for safe trick-or-treating and then have a parade through the main section of the town. It’s wonderful to see all the children having so much fun and see them in their costumes. Some of the adults dress up to. And this year there were MANY dogs dressed up and walking in the parade too! Thanks for sharing your party!

We celebrated with a Halloween supper of Pork Roast, Root Vegetable Parmesan Tian, Mashed Potatoes, Apple Crisp and homemade Peanut Butter Cups for later.. The men tooke the kids out for trick or treating and the ladies stayed home with a glass of wine. We only had ten kids come to our door. Our punishment for having such wide frontage lots and making the trick or treators walk too far in between houses. But we had a great time with good food and wine of course.

Thanks for sharing the party pictures. All the great costumes were great and I’m sure your food was great too. Things were quiet at my house. Had planned on taking our dog our for a walk on Halloween night, but stayed home instead because it rained all evening. My kids were away, staying with friends for the weekend, which made it even more quiet. I ended up watching old scary movies and having popcorn.
