AFTER A WEEKEND of 50 mph winds that downed trees and power lines (yet mercifully left my garden alone), I can hardly complain about today’s rain. In fact, I’m rather happy to be working outdoors this morning, cleaning leaves from the narrow borders in the bulb-garden. There, beneath the soggy debris, 100 grape-hyacinths are beginning to sprout. Playing in the mud…tidying the borders…seeing plants grow — these small things provide me enormous pleasure, even in the rain. Are you this way too?
