Waiter! There's a Hand in my Punch!

For halloween this year, I'm floating a frozen, "severed" hand in a bowl of blood-red punch. It's an old gag, but one that is spooky enough to entertain witches and goblins of all ages. This is how you do it:

The Frozen Hand. Fill a perfectly clean plastic glove (latex or otherwise) with water, and tie the end with a rubber band. Then suspend it from a shelf in your freezer until solidly frozen. A paperclip makes a useful hanging device.

The Punch. For gruesome effect, choose a punch that is oddly-colored. For red, nothing could be stranger than Hawaiian Punch. For slime-green, use lemonade and a drop or two of green food-coloring. For black punch, use a grape-flavored soft-drink mix, such as Kool-Aid. Whatever your brew, spike it with gingerale just before serving. You can spike it with rum or vodka, too, if your monster-bash is for adults only.

Unmolding the Hand: Just before guests arrive, dip the hand briefly in a bowl of warm water, then peel off the glove. Float the hand palm-side up. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!
