My African Violet Window Garden

African violets, or Saintpaulia ionantha, make a captivating window garden all by themselves -- even when that window is in one's bathroom! If only you could soak in the Victorian slipper-tub in this room, with a pleasant view of these everblooming standard, miniature, and trailing saintpaulia varieties. (For a closer look, click on the image)

Flanking the plant tray on the windowsill is Narcissus 'Erlicheer' (left), and Mitriostigma axillare "African Gardenia" (right). Both are heavily (and heavenly) perfumed. Brackets: Tolmiea menziesii (left); Impatiens (right)Frame: Philodendron scandens. Photo: R.H. Blackburn (with hat-tips to Randy Hinz and Patricia Decker).
